POckelford Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 Hi; I'm trying to send my friends a 500mb folder of photos, and I thought I'd try something cooler than Megaupload. I read up on using using utorrent to create a torrent/tracker that allows my friends to connect directly to my PC and upload the seeding file from me. Running Vista 32bit, uTorrent 2.0.4, Belkin F5D8631-4, wired connection (my PC = 192.168.2.52 - external IP = 94.192.19.240)I have enabled the tracker option in utorrent and restarted the program: Exhibit A http://imgur.com/GI3ju.pngI have forwarded the port (55555, as I set in uTorrent preferences) on the router: Exhibit B http://imgur.com/nEoBg.pngI have tested the connection using uTorrent: Exhibit C http://imgur.com/RJAan.pngI have tested the connection using PFPortChecker: Exhibit D.1 (TCP) http://imgur.com/5tIkL.png, Exhibit D.2 (UDP) http://imgur.com/jRmZE.pngI created the torrent/tracker in uTorrent specifying the folder and constructing the tracker properly: Exhibit E http://imgur.com/PGEEd.pngI start seeding the torrent and check the tracker to find 'No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.', and my friends get the same message: Ironically, Exhibit F http://imgur.com/R6nSP.pngI have even gone so far as placing my IP in the router's DMZ and disabling Windows Firewall, and I get the same exact results. Here is a test torrent I've made, should you care to try connecting: REDACTEDWhen I download public files using public trackers I always see relatively healthy upload activity. I am able to seed files I download with public trackers without any problem.Any and all help is most welcome. Thanks!EDIT: PC is currently OFFLINE
moogly Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 Just use a list of public tracker likehttp://tracker.openbittorrent.com:80/announcehttp://tracker.publicbt.com:80/announcehttp://torrent-download.to:5869/announcein your torrent.Be sure you add the private flag to the .torrent, then send the .torrent to your friends (email, MSN etc).
POckelford Posted October 31, 2010 Author Report Posted October 31, 2010 Thank you for this; I've added these to the .torrent and the openbittorrent is the only one that shows up - but at least it says it's working! I still don't understand why the embedded uTorrent tracker causes the refused connection. Thanks for your help, I'll use openbittorrent for now.Update: I created a new torrent with these public trackers and sent it to my sister (same LAN), she appears as a peer on my screen, and the tracker says it's working and I show as a seed on her screen, but no transfer takes place. Is this because we're on the same LAN? Does this only work with local peers enabled?
moogly Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 Can you try with the same torrent, but with the private flag disabled (so LPD will be enabled).
POckelford Posted October 31, 2010 Author Report Posted October 31, 2010 Yes, this worked for the transfer on the same LAN, thanks. I've found that if I add the tracker 'http://localhost:55555/announce' I get shown that that tracker is working. But I haven't verified if it works externally yet.
moogly Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 Anyway even if LPD is disabled, you should be able to seed, because the client of your sister scrapes the tracker to request a peer list (your IP:port in your case).
