sarofski
Hi allI'm using µTorrent 2.0.4 and yesterday I installed Norton Internet Security 2011 and exactly after that I have a problem:It's like µTorrent goes out of control and the CPU & Memory usage increases steadily till it gets to a point where my system enters a Hang-like situation, when I exit µTorrent everything gets back to normal and when I start it again, the same story ...I checked the FAQ in the incompatible software section and couldn't find anything related to Norton. Can anyone helpThanks
GTHK
NIS probably has a bug, follow my signature.
moogly
Did you add some exceptions (TCP/UDP) about µT in NIS 2011?
sarofski
GTHK: I'm not sure what you meant, but I uninstalled NIS and installed another version directly from the Norton site, and it's still the same.moogly: Basically NIC considers utorrent as a trusted program and besides I have no problem in p2p communications and downloads, it's just CPU usage gradually increases ( by utorrent ) and results in the problem. Doyou think I should do something in the firewall rules?!
moogly
And did you enable the option "append .!ut extension to incomplete files" in µT then exclude this extension in NIS?Because maybe Norton consumes CPU/RAM to scan torrents which are being downloaded. If the issue is still here, try to open a thread on Norton support boards. GTHK
Did you try running uTorrent while NIS wasn't infecting your system?
sarofski
the "append .!ut extension to incomplete files" option is not enabled. It's been 2 years that I'm using utorrent and it's just few days that I installed NIS.Maybe I should forget NIS and remove it !! moogly
Nope. I have to admit KIS is becoming a gaz factory since the 2 or 3 last versions (eating RAM and slowing the computer), anyway there is no reason you meet such a problem with µT and KIS.Did you open a thread about your issue on Kasp's support boards?
sarofski
It's not Kasp, it's Norton (NIS) and yep, I've opened a thread there and still no help there either.
moogly
Can you post logs when µT is running please? (and the RAM/CPU usage is growing up)Guide: http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=29748In PE, select utorrent.exe and enable DLL mode (ctrl+D). sarofski
Well I uninstalled NIC and now I'm trying bitDefender. But honestly I'm not 100% satisfied with it either. So I think I will give NIC another shot. Gonno post the log when I install it again and of course if the problem exists again.Anyway thanks for your help, gonno do it in 2 days

moogly
uTorrent.exe 4172 41.09 103,544 K 113,248 K µTorrent BitTorrent, Inc.In fact 100 MB of RAM, it's not normal. Are you sure you excluded utorrent.exe and its download folder from NIS?Does NIS report excessive blocked connections?
sarofski
Well, utorrent is counted as a trusted program so I'm not sure if I should also exclude it. anyway it's excluded and nothing's solved.NIC reports of high disk usage or high CPU usage, but nothing about excessive blocked connections. sarofski
DPCs n/a 38.89 0 K 0 K Deferred Procedure Calls Do u know what's this? cuz it's using 40% of CPU, and I noticed that CPU usage fluctuates between 80 and 100 % and every time it reaches 100 the 2 applications that use it the most are utorrent and this one. GTHK
High DPC can be caused by IDE controller current transfer mode being PIO (which is crap), check device manager. NIS might cause it as well though.
