pholmes Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 Hi,Im in the process of downloading a big file (total size 62 GB) using torrent. But the problem is that after around 3-4 GB of download, the folder where i am downloading into gets stuck when i try opening it and when i open task manager, it shows CPU usage at 100%.This has happened once previously too with the same file. But it resolved when i deleted my entire download folder. My antivirus is kaspersky and it has been quite efficient so far.Suspecting it could be some hard drive error (i have used my laptop quite a few times without battery to keep battery life up but unfortunately power went out), i ran the manufacturers (Seagate) complete diagnostic drive tests but that also turned ou ok.Im really confused as to what the problem is. Coz i have this problem only while using utorrent for the big file i mentioned earlier. :I :I
moogly Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 What's the exact process consuming all the CPU? utorrent.exe or explorer.exe? Are you sure Kaspersky is not the culprit? Try to enable the option in µT "append .!ut to incomplete files" then exclude this extension in KIS.
pholmes Posted November 1, 2010 Author Report Posted November 1, 2010 The process is explorer.exeI cant seem to find the option though, to excluse the .!uT extension files from KIS.
pholmes Posted November 1, 2010 Author Report Posted November 1, 2010 Hmmm....cant find the "trusted zone" for KIS 2010.Tried pausing KIS for some time and then opening the folder, but still just opening the downloads folder is causing the progress bar for vista stay continously lit up. I checked the Task manager and again windows explorer is stuck with 100% CPU usage. Can it again be due to the antivirus here? :(
moogly Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 Read this guide: http://support.kaspersky.com/kis2011/tech?qid=208282095Yes, or the culprit can be the indexing tool of Windows that is trying to index and preview the partial file. What's the torrent you're downloading? Which file type?
pholmes Posted November 1, 2010 Author Report Posted November 1, 2010 Hey thanx for the guide...i did as it said. But still my CPU continues to get stuck when i open the download folder. And i havent stopped the downloading yet. Coz there doesnt seem to be any other problem as long as i dont open the download folder. The torrent is Kaplan USMLE Step 1. I got it from thepiratebay.org.Basically its just a compilation of some medical videos in .f4v format.U also mentioned about some windows indexing tool. Could that be the problem now?
Firon Posted November 2, 2010 Report Posted November 2, 2010 What process is actually using 100% CPU?
pholmes Posted November 3, 2010 Author Report Posted November 3, 2010 I have excluded the all files with .!ut from KIS 2010. Still getting stucked.@moogly: Could it be the windows indexing tool u mentioned? Is there a solution for that?Guys need help!!
pholmes Posted November 3, 2010 Author Report Posted November 3, 2010 Dude its the original KIS 2010. I hope i wont have a problem if i try installing it again coz the registration key can be used only once. Also could there be some problem with the torrent file? Coz utorrent doesnt get closed properly anymore. I have had to end the process from task manager 2 times after i closed the utorrent program.
