Utorrent not downloading or seeding

i've been using utorrent for a long time on my dell with vista. just recently i uninstalled the mcafee antivirus stuff and downloaded the newest free avg antivirus stuff. since then my utorrent hasn't been downloading or seeding. it asked me once when i first ran it after installing avg if i want to give utorrent access or something and i said yea. but it's not working. i'm not super smart with computers. what should i do? please help by giving step by step if you can. thank you
