Update causing problems

I have recently got back into torrents and have been using a version of utorrent I downloaded a few years ago, which worked perfectly. Then I got a pop-up saying that I was strongly recommended to download an update. Now, my whole computer crashes every time. I am not IT savvy but I'm guessing it's probably got something to do with insufficient RAM. I'm not using any of the programs you advised might cause this to happen and like I say, everything was fine until I downloaded the update. Is there any way I can uninstall this update, get an older version of utorrent, or switch off whichever new features might be causing this? Maybe there is a way I can limit the amount of RAM I allow utorrent to use or maybe this would still cause the computer to crash anyway. Maybe I can change some settings on my antivirus. Any help would be sincerely appreciated.

Here are my specs in case they shed any light on the problem:

System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3

Computer: Intel® Pentium® D CPU 2.80 GHz

RAM: 1.93 GB

Antivirus: BitDefender Total Security 2009

Thank you clever people for helping me out and thank you utorrent for helping the world out!
