Mickk
Ok, right off the top I will say that I'm pretty sure it's NOT uTorrent causing the problem....but it is mostly when uTorrent is running that the problem manifests, so here goes nothing. The problem: my computer will freeze while uTorrent is running -or- it may freeze during any downloading procedure. It has frozen during game updates for instance. It has also frozen while uploading via uTorrent, which is generally much slower than downloading, so I don't *think* it's a speed issue.I have recently replaced the RAM (2 x 2GB), so that has a fair chance of not being the problem.I also run ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite and connect to the Internet via a Billion Router (BiPAC 7300RA) with internal firewall.PSU is a Cooler Master 550 watt. It's a fairly random occurrence.I have followed the 'best practices' link and made adjustments, I even have it in my bookmarks.Note that the 'freezing problem' has NEVER occurred while there wasn't some sort of download/upload operation happening. DreadWingKnight
The inconsistency may have to do with certain conditions triggering the freeze in that spam filter thing. I don't know what program it's from, but it should be removed.
Mickk
Ok, I went to the Zone Alarm website and discovered there was a new version of ZASS available that I had somehow missed.ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite version 9.3.037.000 * This update includes security and stability improvements, and fixes a rare file download issue. That, in total is what was written about it. Note how it says 'fixes a rare file download issue'.I've downloaded and installed the most recent version.mlfhook.dlll still shows up in the DLL list for uTorrent. It seems to be part of a new part of ZASS that they call "Advanced Download Protection".Due to my internet being down for a while, I haven't had the chance to really 'test' this current version of ZASS, but so far there haven't been any problems.I'll post an update in a couple of days, that should be plenty of time for the 'freezing problem' to rear it's ugly head if it is going to. Mickk
New version of ZASS does not seem to have fixed the problem.Until I find a suitable replacement for ZASS, uninstalling it is not an option.Recommendations for a replacement are welcome.I'm starting to think it may be some sort of hardware problem, probably something to do with the on-board network/ethernet system. Since this problem started, uTorrent hasn't managed to run for much more than 10 hours without the computer freezing, so if it makes it through the night, it *might* be fixed. We shall see. Mickk
Well, the computer has not frozen, it has even reached fairly high download speeds according to the graph on uTorrent. (560kbs with overhead)So, it seems that ZASS was at fault, which is a pity because otherwise it was a great firewall.I shall now uninstall ZASS and probably post something on the ZA forums. Problem solved..... unless something stupid happens.
