agryk13
I moved to a new apartment a few months back, and have been "borrowing" my internet from my upstairs neighbors ever since. Initially, I was getting amazing speeds--at least 1mbps down, 500kbs up. In the last month or so, my upload rate has dropped almost to nothing. I went through the setup guide again to make sure all of my settings were correct. I've changes ports a few times, and set my firewall to open them each time, but when I run the connection test, it always tells me that the port is not open. I wasn't really sure which ports to try, so I was kind of picking them at random. My assumption is that this is an ISP/router issue? I know that the ISP is TWC, and I'm pretty sure that the router was supplied to them by TWC, but I have no idea what model it might be. Any advice? Switeck
Your neighbor might have reconfigured their networking and/or be using a lot more bandwidth themselves. Talk to your neighbor to help eliminate the problem.
agryk13
Maybe they had TW reconfigure things for them. We've definitely been using a lot more of their bandwidth than them, since I'm pretty sure all they do is Facebook. They might have finally called and complained that their connection has been slow the last few months. The "borrowing" was more part of a passive-aggressive neighborly battle than anything else, so I can't talk to them about it... perhaps it's time for us to start paying for our own internet :/
Switeck
Time Warner may also be throttling/disrupting "bandwidth hogs" ...which they define very loosely and arbitrarily. Your activities may have triggered that especially if doing heavy torrenting during peak evening hours.
