Anyone having a problem with uTorrent hanging for while at a time

I'm on 64bit Win7 and have used uTorrent for as long as I can remember. For the last few weeks I've noticed uTorrent will just lock up for like 60-120 seconds for no reason. Windows will say it's not responding. But if I wait it out it'll come back eventually. It had been about a year since I did a format on the computer, so I went as far as doing a complete reformat the other night and I'm still having the exact same issue.

Any ideas?

Just to note. This is on a completely fresh format. Once I realized I was having problems again, I did a full uninstall using Revo. Reinstalled. Went through all my settings again. And still the same problem. I tried a few compatibility modes as well with no luck. Back to normal now though.

Even when I have no torrents loaded? It's still slowing down even then.

I'm going to play around some more and try to monitor my resources while it's actually locking up.

I just don't understand. I've used uTorrent for years and never had a problem. Started getting slowdowns and lock ups. Did a complete format. Installed my same basic software. And still having the issues.

I even went as far as testing out my hard drives and memory for hardware issues.

As I'm typing this I noticed uTorrent started locking up again with no torrents loaded. I quickly checked my system resources and I'm using 0% of my processor and a little over 1gb of my 8gb of RAM and have nothing open but this Firefox window, uTorrent, MSE, and my Dropbox app that runs in the background.

Just for reference. I'm running Windows 7 64bit. Dual Core Intel processor at 3.6GHz. 8gb of ram. A very high end video card. All SATA hard drives. Way more then sufficient cooling. Etc...

You did mention you're using uTorrent v2.2.1 beta build number 23551, so can you test v2.2?

(You might want to back up uTorrent's settings and .torrent files first just to be safe!)

(You might want to back up uTorrent's settings and .torrent files first just to be safe!)

Before I went to the beta build I tried the stable version. Then I read on here before posting bugs to try the latest beta and thats when I installed that.

You should try with PeerBlock uninstalled.

I've always ran PeerBlock before, but I'll give it a shot.

I completely uninstalled PeerBlock.. Rebooted.. Opened uTorrent and started clicking around.. Within 30 seconds it was frozen again..

I did notice you have Windows 7 64bit, but considering other posters' messages about that subject that alone is probably insufficient to trigger the problems you're having. It could be something as obscure as buggy app or driver somewhere, and that's *WAY* beyond me to find!

I'm an IT Consultant/Network Admin.. So I'm not coming in completely blind here. I'll start checking drivers now. I just don't see that being the cause as it's ONLY uTorrent.

Just went through all my drivers. All were good and only one wasn't the latest version and that was my LAN driver. I updated it.. Rebooted.. And still having this same issue. I'm completely out of ideas. Every single other aspect of my computer is running perfect and as far as I can tell this problem is completely unique to uTorrent. uTorrent is one of my most used programs and I love it. I really want to get this figured out.

Start with a FRESH INSTALL of uTorrent...blank/new settings, no torrents loaded.

Does that cause problems?

If so, in uTorrent:

Disable UPnP, NAT-PMP, DHT, LPD, uTP (Bandwidth Management), and Resolve IPs.

...and try testing again, completely shutting down uTorrent and restarting. No need to reboot the computer for the first try. If that doesn't help, reboot the computer and retry.

The problem's source may be Teredo/IPv6 or IPv6 in general...and (if so) that's a windows (7?) problem.

Going to try again right now. But it definitely does it for me with no torrents loaded at all on a fresh install. I could uninstall IPv6 completely as I have no use for it right now. I'll give that a shot.

I just watched my Resource Monitor while it was locking again. I was barely using any CPU, RAM, or Network... I just can't understand what's causing this.

Ok. I uninstalled with Revo. Deleted anything and everything relating to uTorrent. I rebooted. Reinstalled the stable version. Just started randomly clicking around through menus. About 20 seconds into it, it completely locked up again. Going to try disabling what you said now (If I can get it to run long enough.)

I just turned off every option you mentioned and also disabled IPv6. Rebooted the computer. I think it MAY be fixed.

I don't know the uTorrent options very well. I want to start turning them on one by one to narrow it down so I can just turn the culprit off. What order would you recommend going in?

I think I've narrowed it down to either UPnP or NAT-PMP. From what I read neither are really necessary if my port forwards are working fine, which they are. Going to keep testing.

All of a sudden now uTorrent is deleting torrents as soon as they're completed and not letting them seed. How do I fix that? I see no options for it.

wow. I cant believe I missed that lol. In testing my previous issue I spent tons of time just clicking around on random things to create the lockups. I must have clicked on 'downloading' and never changed it.
