utorrener
1. Is it possible to set it up so that only utorrent uses your VPN, while your browser goes through your normal IP? I know you can use a proxy instead but I'm not sure if I trust BTGuard...Now, Regarding problems with PPTP VPNs:2. Does your IP get leaked if you use DHT (This question also applies to SOCK5 proxies)?3. IPV6 needs to be disabled, right?4. Can you use Windows Firewall to make utorrent only run when the VPN is connected? Thanks
eflat
I was about to ask #1 as well...hope there's a solution for that.
utorrener
I think there is no solution to #1.But can someone please answer me this: If I use a PPTP VPN, and I disable IPV6 in utorrent 2, and I have DHT ON and assuming my VPN does not d/c, my IP will NOT leak? moogly
VPN proxifies all the connections from your computer, whatever they are from your BT client or web browser.UDP is a huge issue with proxies, because many ones fail to proxify UDP traffic (that might not be the case if you use a SOCKS5 proxy). The leak of your IP is related to PPTP-VPNs with IPv6.http://www.instantfundas.com/2010/06/security-flaw-makes-pptp-vpn-useless.htmlUse your firewall to stop µT traffic if your VPN drops down (i.e. the IP switches from VPN to ISP). utorrener
Thanks moogly. So are you saying there is no issue with DHT with neither PPTP VPNs NOR SOCK5 proxies? And disabling IPV6 via utorrent 2 settings fixes the IPV6 IP leak issue?Btw I found this guide for making utorrent only run while your VPN is connected on windows firewall: http://forums.ivacy.com/index.php?topic=203.0My only question with that is, how do I find the IP range of my VPN provider? isepiq
The newest version of uTorrent has new/added settings for Socks 5 proxies. It is supposed to have fixed all leaks. After reading abut IPV6, I made sure it was disabled in my OS systems, not just uTorrent. I also use Blocklist Manager a free program from Bluetack in conjunction with ip blocking in uTorrent just in case as a backup. Even though I am using BTGuard proxy service & the newest uTorrent with the new updated settings, I still see some bad ip's being blocked. Hope this is of some help.Afterthought: If a VPN service just sends all you internet connections through a proxy? & you only want the proxying done with uTorrent, then might BTGuards proxy service be more what you want???IMHOisepiq:cool:
Firon
A VPN service will send your entire internet connection through it, yes. If you want to proxy just uT, the btguards socks proxy is just fine. And you don't need to disable IPv6 when using 2.2, when using the new proxy privacy features. utorrener
Hey, thanks for the replies. I still prefer to use a VPN though, I trust a Swedish VPN moreso than I do BTGuard...I will upgrade to utorrent 2.2. I still have one problem with a free VPN I'm testing though. I am trying to use WIndows Firewall on Windows 7 to make utorrent only run when the VPN is connected. I created a rule to block utorrent on my local ip. This disconnects it from the tracker as soon as the VPN disconnects but DHT still runs. Do you know if there is anyway to make DHT also stop running as soon as the VPN disconnects? Or do I have to try another firewall like Comodo? Also can a VPN be used on two different computers at the same time (Both computers on same internet connect/router)? isepiq
'FREE' vpn's are not free. Stay away from free vpn's or free proxies. They are trouble. A 'wolf in sheep's clothing'.IMHOisepiq:cool:
utorrener
I am only using the free VPN for testing purposes, to make sure I can set everything up correctly before I pay. I still don't know how to set up windows firewall to make dht not work when the VPN is disabled...
isepiq
The last VPN I tested was set up so it ran/intercepted ALL intenet traffic all the time??? Why turn it off if you are going to use one?FIRON: Thanks for the nfo about IPv6.utorrener: Have you found a good Swedish VPN service that is affordable? Can you post any nfo on them so I can check it out. Been thinkging about going full VPN also???IMHOisepiq
utorrener
Because sometimes VPNs d/c and your ip leaks. Can anyone help me set up windows firewall to stop torrent from running when the VPN is d/ced? Or do I need commodo firewall?
