Wolffeh Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 OS: Windows 7 x64When uTorrent is set to connect through a proxy, it will freeze after a short time downloading. Also has micro-freezes for about 3 seconds after modifying settings. Incoming ipv6 disabled, and this problem is also encountered on a Windows XP system as well.HijackThis Log:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.4Scan saved at 12:05:27 AM, on 12/20/2010Platform: Windows 7 (WinNT 6.00.3504)MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.7600.16385)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenVPN\bin\openvpn-gui-1.0.3.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\plugin-container.exeC:\Users\Huey\AppData\Local\Temp\TeamViewer\Version6\TeamViewer.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\OpenVPN\bin\openvpn.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\uTorrent\uTorrent.exeC:\Users\Huey\Downloads\HijackThis.exeR1 - moogly Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 Nvidia ForceWare IP service - known issue. It's a buggy firewall, remove it (ton of threads about that here).
Wolffeh Posted December 20, 2010 Author Report Posted December 20, 2010 Uninstalled it, problem persists. Tried disabling IPv6, still persists. Seems to be a widespread issue with this version of uTorrent, not just limited to Win7.
moogly Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 And without your proxy? Are you sure the proxy you're using is designed to support p2p traffic?
Firon Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 Do you get high CPU usage only while using a proxy?
Wolffeh Posted December 23, 2010 Author Report Posted December 23, 2010 I'm using a VPN which is meant for p2p users, uTorrent proxied to use Socks5. It doesn't hang when I disable proxy settings. Yes, it only hangs when configured to use the proxy.
reubeny Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 Just to confirm that I am also having this problem. The VPN server is running ss5 proxy (a socks proxy) on port 1080.Previous versions of uTorrent work fine with it (uTorrent 2.04 and all previous versions from 1.8.4 (possibly earlier but didn't test)). Tried other torrent clients just to make sure it wasn't a problem and sure enough no hangs.Did a clean reinstall of utorrent and still experienced the issue.
Firon Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 We'll have to do our own testing with SS5 and see what's broken. It's been a while since I last used it, mostly just use Dante nowadays, since it has working UDP proxy support (SS5's is broken).
reubeny Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 Can you confirm there are no hangs with Dante? The torrent client almost immediately freezes with ss5.
TheLittleGuy Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 I have the same problem after I updated to 2.2. My computer freezes up and slow to respond.
Firon Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 Can you confirm there are no hangs with Dante? The torrent client almost immediately freezes with ss5.Yes, it works with Dante. Still, we need to make it NOT break when using SS5. It is how we developed the feature, as SS5's UDP proxying support was completely broken.
Firon Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 The next 2.2.1 beta should fix the high CPU usage while using SS5. Please let us know if it doesn't.
jesus2099 Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 Great for those with SS5, good news. Now I'm waiting for the version that solves the "high CPU when GUI is not hidden" problem for the average user without SS5 nor other funny stuff. ;p
reubeny Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 Sorry to say that with the update, the problem hasn't gone away. It doesn't freeze immediately like before but will freeze after 1-2 hours of use.
Firon Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 We have a newer 2.2.1 up with a more complete fix. Please try out 24512.
