Abschicky Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 Hi gang...So i am searching my favorite torrent sites and Utorrent is already running in the background downloading as usual, all is fine. So I find a torrent i want, begin to download, and when i click to download the torrent, that runs fine, it then scans as usual, BUT when it opens utorrent as the default torrent program, it opens a NEW utorrent window, that has zero down the list for all my downloads and uploads etc. Even though utorrent is already running, ( and has seceral uploads and downloads existing) it is constantly opening this secondary window that has nothing in the panels for my uploads and downloads. What is worse when i actually use this secondary utorrent window, it downloads as normal, hits 100% so i attempt to open the download folder and it comes us saying Invalid folder???? even if i save to the desktop?I have been using Utorrent for so long i cant remember and have always loved this program, but this but of now opening the existing running utorrent baffles me.SO i shut the new secondary utorrent window down, open the already running utorrent and manually load the torrent into utorrent by ising the "Add torrent" button after saving the torrent file onto the desktop that i have just downloaded from my fav torrent websites, and it runs like normal, downloads it and all is fine.I just dont know why when saving any torrent file to the desktop, double clicking it, it is opening this new utorrent window and downloading as normal, but no matter how many settings i change on this secondary utorrent, ie, download folders etc, it never works properly.I know i can continue to manually add the torrents to my current utorrent client, but thought this bug was odd?Maybe i should totally uninstall utorent, clean out the registry, but scared that if i do that, i will never get the proper utorrent to run and will be stuck with this bug version, that will nto allow me to retreive the completed folders no matter where i save them to !!Any ideas' gangWin xp 3rdutorrent 2.2 build 23703
isepiq Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 You (Or Something) has either modified something in 'Services' or 'Folder Settings'. Launch Folder Process in a Separate Process in 'Folder Options' can cause these type of problems. In 'Adminstrative Tools' 'Services', there is a setting that will cause this. I changed something there years ago, & eMule starting doing the very same thing. Changed that setting back, & everything was back to normal. Make sure that setting in 'Folder Options' is UNchecked. If you have to UNcheck it, you will need to re-boot your computer. I think I disabled 'Secondary Logon' in 'Services' when that happened. It has been a few years. If you have modified anything in 'Services' or 'Folder Options' recently, try setting everything back to its default setting & see if that helps. SOME setting somwhere has been changed that causes this. Hope this helps you find the problem.IMHOisepiq
Abschicky Posted December 22, 2010 Author Report Posted December 22, 2010 Checked service, to no avail. I did find one interesting issue though. If i run Firefox, i get this weird anomaly, how ever if i run Internet Explorer, i dont. Downloading the same torrent, for example from demonoid or BTJunkie etc, running Firefox, it opens a 'NEW" Utorrent window, which after the download, you try to open the existing downloaded folder and you get that same message, folder unavailable etc..., BUTIf i run Internet explorer, it opens the correct utorrent (existing) downloads and you can open the downloaded folder.I now believe it has something to do with the mime types in firefox which are difficult to remove and reset !, you can modify them, but even when i modify the mime type on ".torrent files" setting it default to "Utorrent.exe" it still opens a new window on Utorrent and does that silly new window and folder unavailable thing!I dont know what to reset in service due to not knowing what or how the original is!Very odd and still perplexed.NEXT? lol
Abschicky Posted December 22, 2010 Author Report Posted December 22, 2010 something in 'Services' or 'Folder Settings'. Launch Folder Process in a Separate Process in 'Folder Options' can cause these type of problems. If it is possible, could you maybe elaborate on this, as i cant see how Utorrent has a setting to launch in a new window?I checked the folder options, and they are set "for Internet Explorer" being a windows operating system, still not to open folders in a new process. I really think it is a Firefox setting.I Uninstalled Firefox, and deleted preferences during the uninstall and scrubbed Firefox references in the registry and reinstalled firefox, and it is still doing it!I will double check services.NEXT?
Abschicky Posted December 22, 2010 Author Report Posted December 22, 2010 OK services we checked, there is no launch in a new window etc. I did check firefox again the mime types, and there are options to :Always ask.Save to.open with. What i do notice is when i check the settings in I/E to "open with" i select the progfam, the icon selection of programs are all small, however when i select the option of "open with" in Firefox, the program option icons are all really large. Not to sure if this is part of the bug, and i prefer not to use I/E for torrents as i use I/E for my banking and only for banking on a protected browser, and Firefox for all my every day searching. If i save a torrent to desktop and click on it, it opens Utorrent normally and all runs fine, so i think at this time, i have a firefox/utorrent incompatibility and at this time i cannot solve it ! so just have to save the torrent to disc and run it that way.If anyone has better ideas, i would love to hear them !?
