Bittorrent took Over Everyrhing

I have a friend who is running Vista. She downloaded a game and when given the choice of what to open it with, she chose bit torrent. It not only didn't open the .exe file it changed everything on her laptop to open with bit torrent. Including the Internet Explorer. Now nothing will open. She can't get online, open her control panel nor her system restore. The only thing she has been able to do is uninstall bit torrent. Would trying to go into the registry and deleting every thing bit torrent help? Any suggestions? Thanks.
