gibradford Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 Hi,First can i just say i am a big fan of utorrent, have been using it for years, and its testament to what a great programme it is that i havent had the need to post on your forum. Anyway, i'm having a problem i never used to have, whereby when adding a new torrent and the dialog box pops up, i will click on SELECT NONE and then tick for example, 2 files and then OK it. When i then click on the torrent and look at the files tab, the priority will be normal for every file, despite only selecting 2 files for downloading. In the past the rest of the files would have Priority Skip. Any ideas why this is happening? Many thanks!Edit: This doesnt happen with BitTorrent 7.2, only with Utorrent, and i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling without success.
gibradford Posted December 27, 2010 Author Report Posted December 27, 2010 Sorry, its Windows 7 64 bit
Ultima Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 What version of µTorrent? I've tested this using µTorrent v2.2.1 b23908 beta on Windows 7 x64 without any problems.
gibradford Posted December 27, 2010 Author Report Posted December 27, 2010 I have tried it with both the stable and beta and i'm having the same problem.
Ultima Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 Have a sample torrent for us to test? Also, we may need your list of running processes (get both):a) get HijackThis from www.trendmicro.com, run it, view the log, and post the contents here get Process Explorer from www.sysinternals.com, run it, Ctrl+D (to show the lower DLL pane), select the µTorrent process from the list, Ctrl+S (and save the list somewhere you'll find easily -- like the Desktop), then post the contents of the saved process list in the .txt file here
gibradford Posted December 27, 2010 Author Report Posted December 27, 2010 I think i have found out the cause of this issue. The problem only appears when i have 'Automatically load torrents from' CHECKED and directed to my download folder. Otherwise, with it UNCHECKED there is no issue, files are skipped when i untick them on the opening dialog box.I never remember this being a problem before, as i have always had automatically load torrents and delete loaded torrents checked, and never had an issue with files not being skipped.
Ultima Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 Oh? So this is the popup you see when you drop a .torrent file in the autoload directory?Edit: Just tried using auto-load, and couldn't reproduce the behavior. Really, a step-by-step method to reproduce it, along with a test torrent would make it easier to track down.
gibradford Posted December 27, 2010 Author Report Posted December 27, 2010 Yea, the add new torrent dialog box.
gibradford Posted December 27, 2010 Author Report Posted December 27, 2010 Shall i print screen copy of directories preferences?
Ultima Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 Um... I suppose. Still, that alone probably won't be enough to go by. How exactly are you getting µTorrent to load the .torrent file? Does it happen with any multi-file torrent?
gibradford Posted December 27, 2010 Author Report Posted December 27, 2010 I'm just double clicking the torrent file. The problem is definately related to directory preferences. When i have both 'Put new downloads in:' and 'Automatically load .torrents from' checked, then any files that i uncheck for downloading still appear as normal priority. With 'Put new downlaods in' unchecked, i get the add new torrent dialog box pop up twice, but any files that i uncheck appear with Skipped under priority.
Ultima Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 I'm not seeing the problem still, even after toying with combinations of both options. But, given that one option that was removed in 2.2.x is directly related to the "Put new downloads" in option (specifically, the "Always show dialog on manual add" option), I wouldn't be too surprised if this is a bug. I have to run right now, but I'll try to test it more carefully later.
gibradford Posted December 27, 2010 Author Report Posted December 27, 2010 Many thanks. It might help to know that i have both 'Put new downloads in' and 'Automatically load .torrents from' directed to the same folder, my "download" folder.
Ultima Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 So I've tried all kinds of combinations here, and still can't get it to do what you're saying it does. Not normally anyway. The only way I was able to sorta simulate it was by saving the .torrent file to the auto-load directory, then quickly double-clicking it before µTorrent detected it and deleted/renamed it. From there, while the dialog is open, µTorrent does auto-load the torrent job into the list, but the dialog remains open. When I modify any of the files in the dialog and press OK, it has no effect on the Files tab (because it was already loaded by auto-load). But this is a highly unusual situation, and I doubt it's what you're doing. Or is it...?
gibradford Posted December 27, 2010 Author Report Posted December 27, 2010 No, but i am saving the .torrent file to the same directory as the auto load. Typically i will download a torrent file, in google chrome, then i'll double click the downloaded .torrent file, which then opens up utorrent and the dialog box where i can select files. But like i say, with both directory preferences checked, whatever i select in the dialog box makes no difference in the files tab.
gibradford Posted December 27, 2010 Author Report Posted December 27, 2010 Ah, i think i am understanding it now. If both put new .torrents and auto load torrents have the same directory, then obviously the auto load is loading the downloaded torrent, whilst i manually load the torrent i have downloaded, therefore, any changes i make in the dialog box will make no difference as the torrent has been auto loaded. Makes sense. The only reason i have auto load .torrents is because i find the delete loaded torrents really handy, saves having to manually delete loaded torrents. But seems that i can't have both?
Ultima Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 Yeah you shouldn't be saving the .torrent file to the auto-load directory if you plan on opening it yourself anyway.
gibradford Posted December 27, 2010 Author Report Posted December 27, 2010 Theres no way to auto delete a .torrent file if i manually open it though? And then, theres no option to select which files if the torrent is auto loaded?
moogly Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 Theres no way to auto delete a .torrent file if i manually open it though?µT deletes only the working copies created by itself and stored in the .torrent storage folder, that's all.
