Socket errors

I've been using uTorrent for a while now, and so far it's worked great. Even with the recent upgrades, despite the complaints I've seen in forums, my download speeds have exceeded 100kbps, sometimes going as high as 167kbps on a wireless broadband connection.

A few days ago, I left my PC running some torrents while I went out, and when I returned the system apparently encountered some sort of error and shut down. Booted Windows in safe mode and looked around, but found no apparent problems so I restarted in normal mode. When I restarted uTorrent, I began to encounter slowdowns in speed, and now my download and upload speeds have bottomed out to the transfer rate of a dialup connection, although normal surfing and even MMO's are unaffected. As I write this post, I'll be continuing to test the only 2 remaining active torrents on my list over the next few days to see if it's just the seeds/peers, but I thought I should bring up this little matter when I ran the Setup Guide speed test.

Under Bandwidth, speed test failed because of

"Connection failed error: A request to send or receive data was disallowed because the socket is"

...and that's it. The message trails off, and I'm at a loss as to what to make of this. Of the forum posts I've read, I haven't found anyone who specified a similar error message, though I've seen similar symptoms.

Network test on the other hand showed no problems, and the port was open.

For reference, my terminal is connected to the internet via a LinkSys WRT54G router, with Windows 7 Home Premium as my OS, and an AMD Athlon II X2 240 CPU, with 4GB of RAM. I've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the uTorrent client, and rechecked my firewall settings to make sure it wasn't being blocked.

Has anyone else encountered that socket error message? Does uTorrent's tech support have any idea of what the problem could be?

Sorry for the long post guys. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
