r3mus Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 For those of us who perma-seed files, it would be really handy to be able to move and rename files (or folders) within uTorrent rather than having to move the files outside uTorrent and then use the "Set Download Location..." feature to relocate the files or folders.Just one way organizing files would be easier (music can be kept in music folder, movies in movies, tv shows in tv shows, etc.)Thanks!
Firon Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 Set download location moves content for you in 2.2, as does the individual file relocate function. However, it's not possible to rename the torrent folder just yet with this new behavior.
r3mus Posted December 30, 2010 Author Report Posted December 30, 2010 Indeed... I always assumed it didn't work because it takes it's time doing it in the background. Not that it's life or death, but the renaming feature would be easy to implement and would make file organization a great deal simpler. And perhaps a loading bar or some sort of indication that the file is being moved/copied to it's new destination maybe??
mrchinaplate Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 Set download location moves content for you in 2.2, as does the individual file relocate function.G'day, Does this function actually move the files for me and not just look elswhere? If, after moving a torrents files I then download additional files/episodes, do they go to the general default folder or get added to the files in the new location?
mrchinaplate Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 Just one way organizing files would be easier (music can be kept in music folder, movies in movies, tv shows in tv shows, etc.)Could the labels columb be used to set default download folders?
cjard Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 Set download location moves content for you in 2.2' date=' as does the individual file relocate function.[/quote']G'day, Does this function actually move the files for me and not just look elswhere? If, after moving a torrents files I then download additional files/episodes, do they go to the general default folder or get added to the files in the new location?Yes it actually moves the files from the old folder, to the new one, then downloads new files into the new folder. Lets say you are downloading a season of a show and your UT always d/l to c:\downloads by default. Now for this season, you have said "dont download " to episodes 5 - 20, episodes 1-4 download in c:\downloads (for example) then you choose Set Download Location and tell ut to download to d:\moviesUT will move all the eps 1-4 into d:\moviesSuppose you then say "download with normal priority" to all the remaining 5-20The new eps 5-20 will go in d:\moviesBut if you then go to the tracker search and download a totally different torrent of season 2 of the same show, UT isnt artificially intelligent; it wont put the new files in d:\movies (unless you tell it to)
sidesw1pe Posted May 21, 2011 Report Posted May 21, 2011 Set download location moves content for you in 2.2, as does the individual file relocate function. However, it's not possible to rename the torrent folder just yet with this new behavior.I am very interested to know whether it will be possible to rename the torrent folder in a soon-to-be-released version of uTorrent? I've left my torrents unsorted for quite some time, & over the past few days have finally managed to find time to begin sorting. It is to my dismay that the torrent folder is not renamed! For example, a torrent folder is configured as 'Free TV Show Season 2' & I move this to a new folder called 'Free TV Show\Season 2' using the 'Set download location' function. When I subsequently choose 'Open containing folder', I find that the original folder is now a sub-folder of the new one, which is no good to me. If I manually move the files to the new location, & remove the originals, then use 'Set download location' - the 'My Documents' folder is opened instead of the new '123' folder (indicating that the specified download location does not exist). If I open the resume.dat file using the editor, I can see that the torrent is still expecting the original folder to exist as a sub-folder of the original. So clearly we need uTorrent to allow the torrent folder to be renamed. My reason for wanting this is obvious. Completed torrents are moved to a sorted location, & I use different naming conventions to the pure random conventions used by various torrent creators. Therefore I want to rename the folder. Currently I have to use the editor to modify resume.dat, which is not ideal at all. I am positive it did not used to be like this...
PaRaDoXaD Posted September 25, 2012 Report Posted September 25, 2012 I have some download: C:\downloads\* - and there are 5 folders (Movies, Documents, etc..) with some torrentsAnd I need to rename folder Movies to C:\downloads\Media\It hardly to do it with "Download to..." for each of torrents. Can you do uTorrent watching that I renaming folders in explorer Windows, and changing the trace of torrent files automaticly?
ciaobaby Posted September 25, 2012 Report Posted September 25, 2012 Renaming the torrent in the list before changing the download location has always worked for me from ver 3.1 onwards at least.Still does in 3.2.1.28012
slimtom Posted December 27, 2012 Report Posted December 27, 2012 I use media player that doesn't sort files by date, but just by name. Also many DLNA media server cannot do it. So I really would like to use automatic folder/filer renaming function,or to add date to folder name, or add number or whatever, so the listing could be sorted by download date. I think many could use this functionality. I can do it manually, but this is not it... and takes time
