trer01 Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 After a recent clean install of my OS I am faced with the installation of all those 'critical' security updates, and the like & among the necessary and the useful there are of course the aggravations sent out against Us Torrenteers from the harder parts of Microsoft's corpus  I am yet to patch the tcip.sys file, and I know at least one update destroys this patch's applicability.... Can anyone tell me which updates I should avoid ???
Switeck Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 Why patch the tcip.sys file in the first place?uTorrent uses uTP heavily now, which isn't affected by the TCP half open limit.Incoming connections were never affected by the TCP half open limit either, so only if you are firewalled in uTorrent will you see a significant difference.
Firon Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 Just use Windows 7. There's no reason to use XP anymore.
GTHK Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 Patching half-open isn't necessary and can be pretty harmful, focus on setting tuning.Just use Windows 7. There's no reason to use XP anymore.Money.That list would have been longer if you suggested Vista.
trer01 Posted December 30, 2010 Author Report Posted December 30, 2010 Ok evryone thanks for the tips uTP seems to be the answer. No tcip.sys patch, all the security updates in one fell swoop...& blinding speeds on the factory settings.... so no need for tweaking yet. I only set the firewall to allow UDP too and it seems to work fine (no more TCP huh??? ADEIEU !!!).This GUI is bloody brilliant & IT LOOKS COOL IN A XP CLASSIC SILVER SET-UP !!!!
