noidea Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 Hi I was wondering if there is any way to choose peers I want to download from. For example if there is some way to start downloading from someone at 10 kb/s rather than all those peers with going under 1kb/s? Some limit to put for download my upload is ok 'cause it's always unlimited...Or if there is no way to do it maybe it could be a nice option to put in the next release?Thnx
1c3d0g Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 Selective downloading fucks up the whole swarm, so no (and IINM it conflicts with the BitTorrent protocol as well). :/
noidea Posted March 13, 2006 Author Report Posted March 13, 2006 yes but uTorrent start downloading from some users at 0,1 kb/s and don't use other sources because of this...
Ultima Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 It will continue to try other peers, and if it gets a faster and more reliable connection, it will disconnect a slower peer for that one.
Switeck Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 Part of the problem may be running with upload speed set to 'unlimited'. Your connection ends up SO overloaded that even though many peers are trying to upload to you considerably faster than 1 KB/sec...they can't!It's much better to lower upload speed limits in µTorrent to considerably slower than the max upload speed for your connection.I can upload at a max of around 44 KB/sec under best conditions on my connection -- but I have to set µTorrent's upload speed to 40 KB/sec to be able to surf the web smoothly if it's seeding. Or even as low as 30 KB/sec if µTorrent is downloading+uploading torrents while I'm trying to play an online realtime game.
