jesaf00 Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 I downloaded a test file using utorrent and the stated hash was 62b9d34705c4dc17cb0f17722691dd48f8b47f62 but when I ran md5 -s on mac os x terminal the hash came out 81ac467781bbcd060f8654b8bfd8a030. Can anyone tell me why this might be? I ran a force check in utorrent and it came up fine.
DreadWingKnight Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 The infohash of a torrent isn't the file's specific sha1 hash.
jesaf00 Posted January 18, 2011 Author Report Posted January 18, 2011 Thanks for your response. So, if the hash under the General tab of a downloaded torrent does not equal the checksum of the file, what is it for?
DreadWingKnight Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 it's the identifying hash of the .torrent file.
