Support magnet in RSS feed

Question: Have you ever actually used a RSS feed that had magnet URIs in it? Because if you have, then you should know that µTorrent already does support magnet URIs in RSS feeds.

µTorrent doesn't support the eztv spec, so there's no way it would understand the new tags in the first place.

The problem on their end is that they're serving up different links for different specs, which is kind of silly. Though I guess they're expecting that the clients that eventually support their spec would also support magnet URIs.

Ultima, are you saying you will not support any valid extensions of RSS? Why not allow the user to simply specify what attribute to use instead of hardcoding the enclosure tag? Really not allowing for much innovation are we? :P

Also, not sure if you notice, but since we wrote the spec, tpb, bt-chat, bitsnoop and i believe a few others are now using it, so you can't exactly say this isn't something we would like to see implemented.

But, it's your call in the end.

His post was from January 2011... :)

We do support magnet links, but we don't support the magnetURI field. Probably not terribly difficult to do so.

Although it's replying to a necroed thread, you might be interested in my aggregated EZTV RSS feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/eztv-rss-atom-feeds?format=xml

Aggregates data from EZTV (scraped from web page), EZTV RSS, EZTV Twitter feed and EZTV on The Pirate Bay.

It takes the first link from each, so there are no enclosures or anything. In the case of TPB it gets the magnet link.

There is a major difference between "doesn't" and "will not". user123456 was lamenting the fact that the linked feed wasn't supported, and I explained why. Given that I wrote that post the very month the spec was first published, about the support status as of the posting time, I'm not sure how you could project anything to current day.

I even outright stated that the spec would eventually gain support. So seriously, I've absolutely no idea what you're trying to get at here.

Actually I never looked at the date, I had a number pf people ask me about it and referenced this thread. Apologizes, I guess the :P wasn't enough to portray my slight sarcasm in the comment made.

A few things i know and see from having EZTV RSS'es in utorrent ; It never loads a magnet link... for anything related to RSS. If a hosting site won't respond or accept connections or for any reason the log shows a fail to download the torrent file, it sits there retard style instead of loading the magnet link. ( I'd prefer that ezrss only publish magnet links, i'll make that request elsewhere)

Adding a right click option or a check box, something even remotely related to a magnet link in the UI as an option to load from would be nice. :)

It appears to accept a Magnet Link if it's force fed it as the link in the Feed.
