Theformula
I've only been in the torrent game for about a month now and I have yet to successfully move a torrents contents, to another location, and get it to link back up in the UI. I've read on the subject for more hours than I want to recall and I've tried every logical solution possible. It is apparent that I am doing something fundamentally wrong. I think it is due, for the most part, two to factors.A) I guess I really do not know/understand what information is stored in the .torrent file itself and when those changes are applied; as the file moved from autoload to active to seeding. All information on the subject, particularlly in the users manual and FAQs, does nothing but confuse me due to the fact that there is not a consistent naming convention for the files involved. "Torrent" is used, interchangably, to describe both the .Torrent file and the file(s) that result from the .Torrent file. Here is the best "to the point" directions I have come accross and I can not get this to work.Moving files to another location after they have been loaded in µTorrentFor sorting reasons you may wish for your newly reloaded files to be saved to a different location. This is easy enough but must be done a single torrent at a time.1.Stop the torrent you wish to move in the torrent list in µTorrent.2.Move the files to the location of your choice (for multiple files move the containing folder as a whole)3.In µTorrent, right click > Advanced > Set Download Location ... 4.Browse to the location where you have moved the files.5.Start the torrent again.Note: if you wish to move several torrent to the same location you can select multiple torrents and perform the same action.Guide written by PeloHere is exactly what I'm doing if someone could tell me what I am doing wrong. I am not doing anything exotic here. No Network drives or anything like that. Just moving from my desktop, on my PC and my Laptop, to another drive. I've tried from one internal drive to another, to external USB WD My Passport, To flash drives, to EIDE external USB drives. And ABviously I've attempted it from both computers. My setting are as Follows. I will just refer to the folders as A, B, C.. etc... for simplicity. A = Folder on my desktop I download .Torrent files toB = Folder on my destop set to "Automatically load .Torrents to" ("Delete Loaded .Torrent" is unchecked. )C = Folder on my desktop Both the "Put new dowloads in" and "save .Torrent files in" are set toD= Folder on my desktop both item in "C" (above) move to when Torrent completed. (I never append the torrents label.)I've tried with other a billion other combinations of settings. It works fine as long as I dont move anything. I drop whatever torrents I want to download, from A, into the autoload B. I get a Permanent , ammended, copy of the .torrent file in Fld. A, Then both the original .Torent file and Download remain in folder C Till Done. Then They move to D When completed. I have a Master record of all .torrents I've downloaded saved in folder B and I archive the .Torrent and Completed Doc to Disk. Now, when I run out of room on my desktop, what I do is, 1) Stop all .Torrents. 2) Move folders C & D to the drive I want them to be stored on.2) Go into uTorrent point to folder name "C" for each torrent that is not compete and "D" for all that are complete. 3) Since I am intending on leaving them there to reach their seeding goal I change the "directories" setting to put torrents I add in the new location. 4) I go in and try to get the moved items to reconnect. So Far no luck. I've tried every combination of changing settings, restarting the client, and forcing starts and I got nothing. Never get any kind response from the torrents. They just stay with red x's. They never appear to refresh or give any kind of a response. New torrents I add go through without a hitch. The only way I can get them to work is If I remove the torrents from the UI and replace them with the .Torrent file that was saved when the torrent completed. But theres no point in that as they just start all over again.Any Ideas?
