fecklessness Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 I'm running Windows XP pro SP2 on AMD Athlon 64x2 3800+ with 1gb RAM and ATI Radeon x1300 256mbRAM, 3com etherlink XL 10/100 PCI. It was a fresh install the other day with all sorts of issues with SATA drivers and complex .net framework install problems which all were eventually sorted out UNTILi leave my bittorents downloading and without fail, about 20 minutes or sometimes more into it my whole computer freezes. i've tried different clients, they all do the same thing, but uTorrent is my favorite so I figured I'd ask you all!I've searched everywhere, I've tried lowering my connections to as few as 60 max global to no avail.... I've changed video drivers, sound card drivers, LAN cards, everything! Why in the world does it so consistently freeze my computer? If no torrents are d/l i can leave uTorrent open. but once they start downloading, give it 20 minutes........ HELP!
fecklessness Posted March 14, 2006 Author Report Posted March 14, 2006 oh and no, event viewer in windows shows no errors at all... otherwise I'd have a clue!
Firon Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 Did you check the incompatible software list? If you got nothing there, what anti-virus/firewall do you have? Did you check process explorer's threads tab to see what's hooked into the utorrent.exe process?
fecklessness Posted March 14, 2006 Author Report Posted March 14, 2006 I'm using Panda for both virus protection and antispyware. What incompatible software list? Windows XP? It's a fresh install and the only program giving me problems is uTorrent, could it be incompatible you mean? That doesn't make sense to me.What should I look for that's hooking up to uTorrent.exe process that's f-ing me up?Anyhow Firon, Process Explorer shows nothing hookedup to uTorrent.exewhere to hunt next? Please don't double post, use edit.
Firon Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 incompatible software list in the FAQ.So you don't see anything besides 4 utorrent.exe and mswsock.dll in the Threads tab?
fecklessness Posted March 14, 2006 Author Report Posted March 14, 2006 I'm not running anything listed in the FAQ as incompatible. Unless Panda is incompatible and it's not listed? Although that's not possible because I've run uTorrent with antivirus all closed down and not doing it's thing and same stuff happened! In the threads tab i have four uTorrent.exe, 3 pavlsp.dll, and 1 ws2help.dll, and 1 mswsock.dll
Firon Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 Could very well be Panda. I suggest you uninstall it. Closing will NOT work.
fecklessness Posted March 14, 2006 Author Report Posted March 14, 2006 I'll try it and post my results later. Thanks for the tip! What is a recommended antivirus/spyware package that would not cause conflicts? Why would it cause a delayed reaction though? Wouldn't it not allow traffic at all or at least react immediately? Why does it work for a while THEN freeze?Thought about it and realized, before I started using this new computer and fresh install of XP my old system had Panda and it worked fine. That nixes that idea. Any more ideas?USE THE EDIT LINK, stop double and triple posting!
Yenkaz Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 It happend to me too!Had to restart the computer, and later i got some message about a resume file being damaged(and has been restored as well)
Firon Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 Just try uninstalling it fecklessness, see if that fixes it. I don't know why it's a delayed reaction, but it's probably just choking on all the reads and writes after a while.
fecklessness Posted March 14, 2006 Author Report Posted March 14, 2006 Yenkaz, yeah, that hasn't happened to me every time, but I've seen similar behavior on many of the reboots. I've uninstalled my Panda and we'll see how long I stay stable for!Firon, any good recommendations for antivirus/spyware that won't clog me up?
