zerophyte Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 I have been reading several topics here but to no avail in regards to fixing the speed issues that many others seem to experience lately. Only funny thing is, these problems started happening to me about 2 days ago, and I already was upgraded to the latest uTorrent 2.2.. so it doesn't make sense. My speed tests are all up to snuff with my provider, I can even download at MAX speed via HTTP links on various download sites etc.. but not on uTorrent, not anymore that is.. >_<My ISP is not torrent throttling as far as I know, or thats what they told me. So I have no idea whats going on. I tried going to version 2.0.4 and back with no results.. My max download via torrents is usually 340KB/s steady/constant, and now its only reaching 80-99KB/s.I also have the uT bandwidth management thing turned off, as I read that it can be a culprit. but it makes no difference for me.
gurionl Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 Hey,--I also have big issues with the download speed and I am using uT 2.2.1 Beta.--From reading other posts in this forum, it seems to be that this version 2.x.x is a major drawback in the application performance.--I think something is wrong with the code because like u stated, all my other downloads including speed tests I made, do not show issues with my ISP, network, computer etc. Thanks,GL
zerophyte Posted February 2, 2011 Author Report Posted February 2, 2011 Like I said, I tried downgrading back to an earlier version of uTorrent, but im thinking the since 2.2 was installed, it may have left lingering residual changes in my Windows 7 registry and files.. or wherever it stores config files.. *sigh*On a side note, I tried a torrenting program on my other comp a macbook with Transmission(torrent program) which now also runs just as slow.. I'm beginning to think that my ISP is indeed traffic shaping my connection, but why only as of 2 to 3 days ago? (they told me they aren't doing it..) My connection and setup worked great for the last 2 years. and i changed no settings or router/firmware.
zerophyte Posted February 4, 2011 Author Report Posted February 4, 2011 Just an update to my topic, incase anyone is curious or not..I believe I have fixed my problems and wish I would have thought to do this most crucial step sooner than later. Instead I was bashing my head in over 3 days and even went as far as to signup for a VPN connection which wasn't helping at all.. lol.. wasted money. The problem seemed to lie with my Linksys WRT54GL which is flashed with DD-WRT v24-sp2 (09/08/09) std - build 12874I remember browsing through the dd-wrt.com forums, and their answer to most problems when the internet connection is acting up is to perform a hard reset, which I did(tho I lose all my settings). And now my connection seems to be back to normal for now, no signs of traffic shaping or bittorrent throttling taking place.

niki_s Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 Hi there.I had the same problem. My system never required anything doing to it and used to download at 1.5MBpsSince installing 2.2 it became erratic. Nothing else was changed. No setup changes, no hardware changes, yet sometimes was full speed, 1.5MBps, sometimes crippled 0.2KBps. Rebooting, reinstalling, following recommendations - nothing worked. It was interesting becuase it would be running at high speed then suddenly drop low without warning and potentially remain low for days. Reboot didn't help. Oddly I compared this with my second PC on my network that's almost identical, also running 2.2, and the second PC was holding at a constant 1.5MBps. What seems to have fixed it is I uninstalled 2.2, deleted all the registry entries and prior configurations, then installed an old copy of utorrent. I have no idea why, but just for that one PC 2.2 was behaving erratically.
viditbansal Posted June 27, 2011 Report Posted June 27, 2011 hey niki_s i have the exact same issue. .. plEase be a little specific and mention the exact procedure ... I did what all you wrote ... but still the speed drops.... so please give me a walkthrough on how you deleted the configuration settings and registry stuff.. .. awaiting your reply.....Hi there.I had the same problem. DreadWingKnight Posted June 27, 2011 Report Posted June 27, 2011 The use of old versions is not supported. That includes finding them.
Dragonstar Posted June 27, 2011 Report Posted June 27, 2011 When wiping an installation completely off your system use Revo uninstaller. Ive been using it for years.Creates a restore point on your machine, then uses the programmes built in installer to remove it before it wipes out all left off registry files and residual files.Even if a programme refuses to let you remove it due to X error this thing wipes it off your system.Brilliant bit of software and I will be using it to roll back my utorrent version tonight. Thanks for the info.
DreadWingKnight Posted June 27, 2011 Report Posted June 27, 2011 All I'm seeing here is a lot of complaining and not a lot of following of the troubleshooting guides we have posted for speed issues. There will be NO support for rolled-back installs.
