Solution for running µTorrent in multiple OS partitions required

Hi all. I have an odd issue (but not a problem) that I hope there is a workaround for and I would appreciate any help given.

Background:

I run µTorrent in 2 OS partitions, XP and Win7. I need and use both OSs but I won't bore you with the reasons.

I have the latest µTorrent in both and it usually runs in background while I am working.

Issue.

Both OS µTorrent installations point to the same directories for incomplete and complete files so if I start a torrent downloading in one OS, all I need to do when I switch OSs is to find the torrent again, add it, and then it does a force recheck and picks up from where it left off downloading in the other OS.

BUT..........I have some very large torrents and sometimes I can't remember where I got them so restarting them in the other OS is a problem. Sometimes you can go through 10 pages to find a FREE torrent among all the pay sites.

Is there any way that I can force one µTorrent installation to locate the original hash file from the other OS µTorrent installation ?? Otherwise I have to wait to go back to the other OS to continue the download.

I hope that is all clear, thanks in advance all

moogly, thanks a lot for the response.

Can you be a bit more specific about how to do that and where this file is normally stored ?

All my partitions are reachable by both OSs.

Moogly, are you saying that I only need 1 installation of µTorrent and just set shortcuts in both OSs ???

I thought that µTorrent would have made registry entries that would make that impossible, or is it an installation that does not affect or change the registry ?

µT doesn't need any registry entry to work (only about file association like .torrent but it's purely optional).

On the partition reachable by both OSes, create a directory with utorrent.exe and the files usually stored by default in %appdata%\utorrent and you're done.

After that, feel free to create a shortcut of utorrent.exe stored in this folder.

Thanks moogly, I found a slightly different solution, but your comments put me in the right direction.

In each OS, I pointed the "automatically load .torrent from" to the opposite OS %appdata%\utorrent and it seems to pick up both its own and that of the other OS, which makes me think it can see and use multiple resume.dat files at the same time.

many thanks
