canoad56 Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 Hi,New to u torrent. I downloaded version 1.0.2 (it says) and it seems to work, except I guess I don't know how to use it. When I do a search, it brings up my firefox. I would expect it to bring it up in u torrent. How do I find the torrents so I can add in the url? I keep finding stuff but everyone wants to charge for the download, which defeats the purpose of u torrent.Maybe its just a setting that I am missing, I looked at several posts but my version of u torrent does not have the features that some of these posts talk about like + - on Network in preferences and an Advanced setting in preferences.Any help would be appreciated.
DreadWingKnight Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 When I do a search, it brings up my firefox. I would expect it to bring it up in u torrent. You are expecting something that isn't supposed to happen here. This is behaving as normal. How do I find the torrents so I can add in the url? I keep finding stuff but everyone wants to charge for the download, which defeats the purpose of u torrent. Then come up with better keywords.
SunnySunny Posted August 19, 2011 Report Posted August 19, 2011 I'm having the same problem. I just moved to a Mac a month ago, now running OS X Lion, and uTorrent 1.5.5, and the search for torrents just doesn't work in the same way as it does/did on the pc.On the pc when I search, I have the option of choosing the torrent sites to search in.On the mac, I just get shunted to google, which results in almost useless searches.I have checked /downloaded / read as many instructions, posts and advice as I can, but this is the only post which describes what's happening.I can find no options anywhere on uTorrent on Mac to allow me to select a list of torrent sites in which to search, nor instructions on how to find any options!Like the OP, the browser search is hopeless.I'd be very grateful for any help - please ! (I apologise in advance if I'm being dense about this, but I have really tried to solve it and am getting nowhere fast.)Thanks.
SunnySunny Posted August 20, 2011 Report Posted August 20, 2011 I just would like to know if this 'search torrent' feature is missing in the uTorrent for Mac, or if I'm missing a trick somewhere, so, if anyone knows, please do tell me - thanks!
SunnySunny Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 Hi again ... there've been no responses to this post - I'm not sure if it's because there's no-one out there, or no-one who knows the answer, or everyone thinks it's a sill question, or...??I'd really be very grateful if someone / anyone would be kind enough to throw some light on this, please ....Do I have to do all my uTorrent searching on my old pc? Or can it be done easily on the mac? Thanks ....
kamikafre Posted June 15, 2012 Report Posted June 15, 2012 WOuld be nice to know anything about this.... Would that be a feature or anything??? could it be possible?
flyer11 Posted June 15, 2012 Report Posted June 15, 2012 Torrent sites are out there. You might want to start with archive.org or etree.org. Those sites can give you information about downloading.
SunnySunny Posted July 15, 2012 Report Posted July 15, 2012 Thanks for those 2 links - very useful sites I haven't used yet. However, the discussion is about the issue of 'searching for torrents' on uTorrent, which behaves differently on the pc than it does on the mac.On the pc when I search, I have the option of choosing the torrent sites to search in.On the mac, I just get shunted to google (now bing), which results in almost useless searches. On the pc - the search facility is limited to torrents. On the mac it merely redirects to a search engine (I can do that by myself).I was asking if the mac search option on uTorrent could stop doing this, and do what the pc search option on uTorrent does - i.e. - search only on torrent sites, and give me torrent results only.
