PeterMinin Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 When a file is checked after an unexpected closing of uTorrent (or if you just select "Force Re-Check", and I suppose after a download is finished), it seems to be put into memory wholly (and many files are larger than my total RAM amount, so it pushes everything into the paging file...), but the memory isn't owned by uTorrent.exe - it must be some system thing not shown in Task Manager; after the check is finally over the memory is freed.
DreadWingKnight Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 If it's not the utorrent.exe process eating the ram, it's the windows disk cache being stupid again.
PeterMinin Posted February 25, 2011 Author Report Posted February 25, 2011 Well, in settings the tick "Disable Windows caching of disk reads" is checked and the uT cache is enabled, and I've tried different combinations of these ticks... Nothing seemed to help. So I think this is worth paying attention, at least if anyone else can reproduce this.
DreadWingKnight Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 Using what specific version and build of uTorrent? (help -> about)
PeterMinin Posted February 25, 2011 Author Report Posted February 25, 2011 3.0 build 24710. Oops, I didn't mention it's about beta.
DreadWingKnight Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 Does the problem persist in 2.2.1 build 24796 or 3.0 build 24823?
PeterMinin Posted February 25, 2011 Author Report Posted February 25, 2011 My Windows is 64-bit, so the latest version for me is 3.0 build 24767, and yes, it persists (it took me time to understand that to check this I had just to stop a download and press "Force Re-Check"...). In 2.2.0 build 24683 (it downloaded from the link on the main page, so I guess it's OK... Or should I get the latest 2.2.1?) the problem doesn't persist.
DreadWingKnight Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 The 32-bit version of uTorrent will still work on 64-bit windows. So try it.
PeterMinin Posted February 25, 2011 Author Report Posted February 25, 2011 Yes, it persists in 3.0 build 24823 too.
