uTorrent BSOD

Recommended Posts

Over the last 18 months, I've been experiencing BSODs (Blue Screen of Death). It always blames the nVidea video card driver, but this occurs ONLY when uTorrent is running. In fact, when uTorrent is running, many apps crash, including a typically very stable firefox. I've updated my drivers, I regularly check for malware, I do not have a firewall on my machine (I do in my router, though).

When I go without uTorrent, the machine will stay up and very busy for days, weeks and sometimes even months with no problems. Usually, within a short time (minutes to hours) of launching uTorrent, my machine does a BSOD. The issue appears to be more related to downloading and speed of thoughput rather than uploading.

I'm pretty well convinced that it's a uTorrent issue, having eliminated all other options that I can think of. I've checked though all the trouble shooting lists available here, I keep my machine as lean as is reasonably possible, and keep a good maintenance routine on my machine.

WinXP SP3, uTorrent 2.2.

Can anyone suggest steps so as to be able to regain stability on my machine while still running uTorrent? If there's any info I should include, please let me know.

Minidump log. I'm not sure if this is complete. The program seems to have automatically selected some items, but there are many more. Let me know if I need to add them too.

I'm not sure why you suggest that nVidia is pre-installed; I always re-install from a non-OEM disc (meaning I bought XP and use the original disc to re-install, and when I do, I typically install as little as I can get away with). I have, over the last 18 months, always kept to date with drivers, and I've looked for every alternative nVidia driver that I could find and try that applies to my machine's configuration. I DO have an nVidia driver, but it's for a video card, a GEForce 8400 GS. The chip is an Athlon chip, so I feel reasonably certain that there's no built-in firewall there as there is, I think, in some Intel chips.

Maybe you're seeing something I'm not, if so, please feel free to point it out. I'd really hate to have to go to Azureus, it's really quite the resource hog by comparison, and uTorrent (when not crashing me) is so light on resources as to be nearly transparent.
