utserver 24733 - torrent file tree gets crushed (encoding problem ?)

hi,

having again some problems with wine & utorrent1.8 on my debian box i was quite surprised to find out about the linux server version, after testing it for a few hours i decided to migrate my downloads to it.

i'm using utserver 24733 on debian 6 64bit, locale en_US.UTF8 & webui 380 (with rss).

Most of the existing downloads are recovered properly but one of them makes utserver to completely mess up its file tree.

I'm quite convinced it's an encoding problem as some of the directories have portuguese chars in them and it seems that those paths are ignored (removed) and then of course everyting goes wrong.

The torrent was added using the autoload directory.

the server starts with this :

./utserver -usage
server started - using locale en_US.UTF-8
300B (24733) 2011-02-17 01:19:04 +0000 (Thu, 17 Feb 2011)

Are there tests i can do to try and fix that encoding problem or is it a know bug and requires us to wait for a fix in an upcoming release ?

thx again for your great work

I worked with some people using non-UTF-8 Russian/Cyrillic character sets to fix character set problems, and I hadn't heard of a problem in this area for some months. Nobody has reported problems before with Portuguese characters, so you may have found something new, or there may be some issue with localization support on your computer.

You are using a UTF-8 locale to run utserver, but it is not a Portuguese locale. Are the Portuguese characters represented in your file system as UTF-8 or a separate code page/character set? I wonder if you need to run utserver under a different locale that handles the Portuguese characters as they are represented in the file system.

The torrent was added using the autoload directory.

Make sure each directory path in the configuration file ends with a slash. This is a workaround for a bug that will likely be resolved in the next release. This bug may be causing the problems you are seeing, but it also might not be.

It's not a known bug. If you could report on results of suggestions I've made above, that may help.

my system didn't have any pt locale so i've installed them all and tested the following setups :

having installed pt_PT.UTF-8, pt_BR.UTF-8 (and other non UTF-8 pt locales)

starting with en_US.UTF-8 makes no difference

starting with pt_PT.UTF-8 makes no difference

starting with pt_BR.UTF-8 makes no difference

i made sure the server reported using the correct locale each time.

the video is supposed to be from brazil so i made more tests with pt_BR than with others. I didn't test non UTF-8 locales, tell me if i have to.

I tried to load from the autoload directory and from the upload file and url upload from the torrent page source.

my paths didn't have trailing slashes so i made the changes before making the tests above and it didn't fix the problem.

let me know if you want to test the torrent i'll send you the link or post it here if it's allowed.

As a side note i also have some chinese and japanese torrents that have proper filenames, but they don't use any directories if that makes any difference. I do have those locales installed though.

I will try to find some more portuguese torrents to make sure they all fail in the same way but that torrent was successfully loaded in my previous wine utorrent 1.8

Thanks for trying out all of that. That eliminates some relatively easy-to-test possibilities.

I'm not familiar with the non-UTF-8 locale options for Portuguese, so it is possible that it may help, but I don't know.

PM me the link to the torrent file, if you would. I'd be curious to examine the contents of the torrent file.

That would be a useful test.

That's good to know.

I'll look at this some more when you send me the torrent file link. Thanks for your efforts investigating.

I couldn't send PMs but there's an email form so i sent you the torrent info by email i guess.

i'll keep following this thread if you need me to do some further tests and i'll try to reproduce the bug with another torrent when i can get my hands on one..
