bently Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 The Idea Bank was promoted as a way of organizing ideas and discussions. How can that be when new ideas are summarily deleted without allowing time for the community to consider and comment? Also, no notice or explanation is given for deletions. The only way I knew my great brainfarts were canned was seeing my voting points restored. Then I had to try and figure out which of my suggestions had been deleted.Isn't part of the purpose of organizing such ideas in a database so that it can be searched to learn if something had been suggested previously, even if it was decided not to accept the idea? A record of rejected ideas is still valuable knowledge.
DreadWingKnight Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 Isn't part of submitting a "new" idea searching to find if it's actually new or not first?
bently Posted March 11, 2011 Author Report Posted March 11, 2011 Isn't part of submitting a "new" idea searching to find if it's actually new or not first?Precisely and thank you for corroborating my concerns. Simply deleting an idea erases it and prevents finding it on a search that would then inform that it has already been suggested and rejected.Much better is to leave all idea suggestions listed and merely add some information such as a link to a prior discussion of the same or a similar idea. Mark it as a duplicate of xxx if needed (with a specific reference link), marked it rejected, asked and answered, but leave it in the idea bank so that future searches for something similar just might produce more results so as to then limit future repeats of the same 'mistaken' suggestion.Summarily deleted such suggestions without leaving any evidence that they had once been proposed defeats the purpose of searching the database for any prior discussion. But that presents yet another problem...Unless I am overlooking something again, it seems to me that the "search" facility on the idea bank is nearly worthless. As far as I can see, it only shows 10 results. If a duplicate match is #11, then it won't show in the search results. Is these a way to view more than 10 results?

Better is to add a link reference to the post claimed to be a duplicate pointing to the supposed 'original idea'.
bently Posted March 13, 2011 Author Report Posted March 13, 2011 Is it just me or is anyone else having issues logging into the ideabank today?
