bandwidth settings

is it about time that you guys separate upload and download bandwidth settings?

why are download settings (nr of active downloads and max connections per torrent) still determined by upload speed only? they should be separated so that the download related settings would be determined by download speed and upload related settings determined by the upload speed.

the reason im writing this - i have a 1 Mb down / 1 Mb up speed and i have no idea how to set up the client. choosing 1 Mb upload setting in the speed guide results in 5 simultaneous downloads, way to much for the 1 Mb download b/w (at that speed 1's good, 2's max). choosing 256 Kb from the speed guide is perfect for the download but limits the upload way to much (22 KB)

You're one of the lucky percentage in the world that has a symmetric internet connection.

A massively large percentage of people have more download speed than upload speed, in ratios up to 15:1 D:U.

That's why connection speed rules are based on upload speed.

thanx for a quick reply

its all about "fine-tuning". with the current client settings the download preferences are the same for all users with a given upload speed - from 1:1 dl/ul up to 15:1 dl/ul - meaning that (given that they have the same upload speed, 1 Mb for example) both the user with 15 Mb dl speed and the user with 1 Mb dl speed would have the same download related settings (5 active downloads and 100 connections per torrent), and its kinda off-balance.

with adding a separate download speed setting you wouldnt lose anything and you would gain a better "calibrated" download settings.
