durerca
I was wondering if anybody could explain roughly what this new option does and in what case it might be useful. I download at 150kb/s to 300kb/s and my write queue is 2MB if that matters.
vurlix
It's used so that the file cache is periodically purged. It's usually not necessary, but some users feel like Windows' file cache shouldn't grow that much so the option was added.
durerca
Thank you vurlix for your answer. I have it enabled here since it doesn't sound like it does any harm. Performance improvements like this are always great to see.
Martin
Exactly why is this an optional feature?
Firon
Because Windows is supposed to handle the system cache automatically, and probably does do so properly for at least some systems.
Martin
I see.
chocoz
It seems like it should be on by default, if it does no harm, and automatically fixes problems on certain systems.
QauNuckShin
It seems like it should be on by default, if it does no harm, and automatically fixes problems on certain systems.Well, it probably results in writing to the disk more frequently, which some users might not want.. tozz
It shouldn't increase any hd-activity, just release files from cache (memory)It's not something just happening on certain systems, it's on every system using windows, but users not doing any heavy tasks won't notice the performance hits that happens when windows have to manage the memory. durerca
I'm not sure if it's related to this option or just the new version in general, but I notice much less of a system slow down after having uTorrent running for a long time. My computer in general just seems as responsive as when I first rebooted. Azureus was terrible for slowing down but even uTorrent being opened for a couple of days would bring less respnsiveness. I downloaded the new version and enabled the flush file cache though and everything is running great.
