uTorrent not working

I have been using uTorrent for a year now in Asia and it works fine. But am in Netherlands on a holiday and downloaded uTorrent on the laptop here. It worked fine for the first 2 days. Downloaded all my files.

But today all of a sudden it has completely stopped. At the bottom it says DHT: Waiting to Log in

and the bottom right corner which always shows a green spot which meant connected is now blank.

I downloaded BitTorrent to check whether this was just a problem with uTorrent, but ran into the same problem.

Have tried resetting my router and restarting my machine.

any solutions. Also please explain all solutions as simply as possible. Am not extremely tech n code savvy.

1. UDP Traffic needs to be allowed in firewalls for DHT to function.

2. PeerGuardian needs a smarter blocklist selected. Several of the blocklists generated by Bluetack block the DHT bootstrap nodes used by uTorrent.

3. IF DHT has worked in the past, try torrents from OpenOffice or Depthstrike Entertainment's Open Source and Freeware tracker

4. Shut down uTorrent, remove the dht.dat and dht.dat.old files from %appdata%\utorrent and restart uT, then retry.

So after reading the above points from your link, i did:

1. I switched off y firewall to test.

2. However couldnt find PeerGuardian. where does this exist within uTorrent

3. DHT has worked in the past. So am queued up a file for Open office. But thats not working either.

4. Removed the dht.dat and dht.dat.old files from the specified source. still no luck.

Now what do i do?

For me, DHT works until uTorrent 2.0.2. I reinstalled uTorrent 2.0.2 and it works like a charm. Nothing to do for the newest uTorrent.

No. Old versions are not supported. That includes finding them

WHAT specific firewall do you have installed?

Many of them don't actually stop interfering when you "switch them off". You MUST uninstall them or configure them properly.

I am using quickheal internet security 2011. so the firewall that comes built in with tht software

Then you need to configure it or uninstall it to prevent it from interfering.

"Switching it off" doesn't actually stop it from interfering.

I have the same problem. uTorrent has been working for years before I updated just now. Upnp has worked like a charm with my router. I don't have any local firewall running in xp here, so that's not an issue. I even tried to set up port forwarding in the router, but that doesn't seem to be the issue (didn't make any difference). I did read on some other site that by downloading an OpenOffice torrent, the dht would start working again. So I did, and it worked. But next time I started uTorrent the same problem occured. Am I supposed to download OpenOffice every time I want to use uTorrent? Of course not. I hope you can figure out this soon.

And as a bit of an OT: No, I don't like your attitude. You are ofc free to act as unfriendly as you wish however. It's not the job I hate, it's the holier than thou attitude I get from users who think that they know what the problem is when they actually don't.

The process explorer process list is incomplete (missing dll list for the utorrent.exe process) however, some RALink wireless adapters are known to cause problems.

Additionally, any information from the trackers tab with a problem torrent highlighted would be helpful (screenshot preferred)

As a matter of fact the problem is gone now. I even tried rebooting to see if the problem would turn up again, but no it's working as it should. I tried earlier on to delete the dht.dat file without that seemingly making any difference either, but I don't know if that had anything to do with solving it.

I'm happy it is working now, but still a mystery as to why it didn't.
