Cannot access the files after successfully downloaded them

I used to search in piratebay, click download , then after torrent indicated that it was completed and in my computer file, I'd just click and windows media player would open the video or movie and I'd see. Simple.

Now I download successfully but when I click on it, no program opens the file.

Is it because there's some security protection disallowing it (dam windows is constantly updating files, so perhaps they're interfering) or why can't I access my downloaded videos?

Please help (I'm so frustated that I can't use this. Please be specific and guide me slowly as I'm both new to this and over 60. thanks
