ExpertAlmost
Good morning!I am running utorrent 2.2.1. I am downloading a large torrent of 36Gb on a Dell Vostro running windows XP. I am running no other programs and no firewalls. I have been using utorrent on this machine for years with no problem.I got a blue screen system crash while downloading the file. Doing a system restart, Windows reports a problem with clkdvr.sys. But I do not have that driver on my machine. Google brings up several posts about sharing folders and Windows Live Messenger. But I do not have Windows Live nor any other programs running when the system crashes. One post mentions an NTSF file feature: "NTFS file system called the USN Journal, which basically tracks changes to files made on the disk. As such, anything interfering with that at the driver level may cause the system to crash. "Now when I try to run uTorrent, as it is "checking" the file even before the download begins, I get the same blue screen crash and clkdvr.sys message. (I wonder if the clkdvr.sys error is real or just the systems misinterpertation of a USN Journal error?) Any thoughts as to what may be causing this? Or better yet, how to get uTorrent to work again? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling uTorrent and starting a fresh download, deleting all previous data, but the same problem happens.Thank you for your insight and guidance!expertalmost
GTHK
Google clkdvr.sys suggests Windows Live Messenger or retarded applications, strange.
ExpertAlmost
Thank you GTHK!Yes, I've read all the posts about clkdvr.sys and messenger. But I was not running messenger. And messenger was not even loaded (ie. offline). So I am pretty sure it is not messenger. Maybe I am the retarded application? hahahahaexpertalmost

ExpertAlmost
Thank you again moogly for your time and considerations. As I did not have this problem with previous versions of uTorrent, would you recommend downgrading it? Is that even possible (if so, how?) if I have 10 Gb of a torrent downloaded or will I lose everything? Are you suggesting updating ALL of my computer's drivers? That's quite a task! Or is there some particular type or set to update?Looking forward to your suggestions!aloha ahexpertalmost
moogly
In fact applications are not the cause of BSOD, only some drivers or driver-filters (like firewall programs) and hardware can imply BSOD.You should try to ask another boards, related to Windows e.g.Maybe you have an issue with your HD. GTHK
Should only take a few minutes each to check for a driver update unless you hit a manufacturer with some retarded setup. Disk/network/firewall drivers/software are primary targets. Event viewer may show something if the HDD/controller is playing up. Prime95 is an excellent hardware stress test.
