brokenjets Posted April 26, 2011 Report Posted April 26, 2011 Im at my friends apartment complex so i wanted to download something just to see how fast it would go. Turns out the internet was slow and ever since that day I ve had to Reset my router back to factory settings just to get on my xboxlive. The maintenance guy said that a torrent will 'screw up everybody's connection" even days afterwards. So im wondering what does utorrent do to the apartment complex that it doesnt do to my house? Just to explain more about how things work here.. one day a tenet got the Ethernet cables for router mixed up and that "slowed down everybody"-the maintenance guy.
DreadWingKnight Posted April 26, 2011 Report Posted April 26, 2011 Honestly, it sounds like they're using below sub-standard equipment for the setup they have if they're having connection problems like that from one person torrenting on it.
brokenjets Posted April 26, 2011 Author Report Posted April 26, 2011 The office manager told me the "cable people' told her how this complex is supposed to get "50". ("I can only assume its 50 bigM little b.) I speed test at 10Mb. Leading me to believe substandard equipment IS being used. as of right now when My belkin f5d7234-4 v5 (g) router is hooked up i cant use netflix on xbox, i could yesterday. When i am directly connected my netflix is in HD and working perfectly. Do you know anything about that?
Firon Posted April 26, 2011 Report Posted April 26, 2011 You're probably double-NATed. You need a switch, or you need to configure the router to turn off the router part ("bridge" mode).Usually it's just a matter of disabling DHCP on the router, then plugging the wall into the LAN port on the router instead of the WAN/uplink
brokenjets Posted April 28, 2011 Author Report Posted April 28, 2011 i just found out that the complex uses a ProCurve Secure Router 7102dl. and i ditched my belkin for a wrt54g v3. does that extra info help at?
