scrfix Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 I would like to see utorrent out there for the QNAP community as well. Not sure if you guys can program that or not but there are a massive amount of people in that community that have been dying for this. In order to install into the QNAP easily however, it requires the package to be configured into its native .qpkg packaging. It is kind of like making a .rpm or .deb package.http://forum.qnap.com/http://www.qnap.comI would love to see a .qpkg package come out for this as well. I would be more than happy to test it out for you as would 1000's of other people on QNAP.The only items out now are RTorrent++, Transmission and some other really really small names for torrent clients. The makers of QNAP would be more than happy to help out I am sure with the making of a .QPKG package.
lithopsian Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 You don't have to have a qpkg file to install software on a QNAP. I would imagine that the same installation procedure used for uTorrent on any other Linux would work for you also: download, untar, run.
scrfix Posted May 2, 2011 Author Report Posted May 2, 2011 Thank you for the response. I, unfortunately, like many that have these devices have no idea how to do that from the command line. We rely heavily on the GUI to be able to perform the actions and work with the software that is provided. I know how to get it IPKG and I know how to install it from there. I don't know how to work it or even access it once it is installed. This is why a .qpkg would be absolutely wonderful.
neub Posted May 7, 2011 Report Posted May 7, 2011 It would be something very usefull !!!!The only thing that worry me is that I don't know if the binary of utorrent can be run on an ARM procesor because almost all QNAP are working on this kind of cpu.
Weppa Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 Will there ever be a ARM version developed in the near future? I recently purchased a QNAP TS-911P+ and have realized I should have researched more thoroughly first.Guess this link must of confused me: http://www.bittorrent.com/company/partnersLOVE uTorrent to the MAX!
mcdonald Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 Will there ever be a ARM version developed in the near future? There are many ARM versions developed for specific embedded devices, as requested and paid for by the respective device manufacturers. Each device is unique enough to not be able to develop a generic ARM version that would work on any ARM box. Often a lot of work is involved just for one model of device.
Weppa Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 Thanks for the swifty response mcdonald, but doesn't really any my question will Bittorent and/or uTorrent ever develop a ARM version in the near future?I imagine you guys would since QNAP is one of your partners. However the QNAP QPKGS/IPKGS do not have anything compared to Bittorent/uTorrent without adding addons (mainly RSS feeds) with no GUI interfaces.
DreadWingKnight Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 mcdonald's answer is the tl;dr for why the answer is no for the near AND foreseeable future.Basically because there is no generic build possible, we will only develop on a per-manufacturer basis when arranged and paid for.
Weppa Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 Excellent, all I needed to know. I shall be returning the QNAP now.So can you please tell me then which "paid" manufacturer support uTorrent with the RSS Downloader functionality?
