Help with DTH, uTP, UDP, UPnP/NAT etc

According to Checkmytorrentip.com I should never ever leave DHT, uTP, UDP peers, and UPnP/NAT-PMP turned on unless I know exactly what I'm doing. They say DHT in uTorrent bypasses my proxy settings and will advertise my local IP address. They say UPnP/NAT-PMP will open the ports on your router/firewall automatically and allow peers to connect to you directly. It is suggested to disable UPnP/NAT-PMP in your torrent client. Is this true? I'm new to using Btgaurd and I need some help. UTorrent suggest I use DHT, UPnP/NAT-PMP, but now I'm unsure. Can anyone help me. I want to be safe.

Also, my service was working great until I downloaded the the newest version of UTorrent and now I'm having problems. One, the new version I downloaded off of Btgaurd came with a different port number. Should I set up my router to use the new port or should I simply change the new version to the original port I was using?

I apologize for my ignorance!

They want you to know exactly what you're doing, but they don't know what they're doing.

We only support versions obtained from our site. Additionally, interactions and problems with BTGuard that do not happen when uTorrent is not configured to use BTGuard are not supported here.

Also, your paranoia won't protect you. http://dmca.cs.washington.edu/

Are you suggesting I not listen to that website? I'm not paranoid, but cautious. I'm trying to protect myself by using BTGaurd. I'm trying to increase my knowledge so thanks for the study I read. After reading the instructions to uTorrent, I answered my second question concerning which port I use, but I'm still not sure about DTH, uTP, UDP, etc. Should I turn them on or off? Can you help me? I setup a static IP address, port forwarding on my router, but I still cannot get a green network light in uTorrent. I had no problems with my previous version of uTorrent, but since I downloaded version 2.2.1, my network light is orange. I'm positive I set it up correctly. Any suggestions? I use Norton 360 Premier Edition Version: 3.8.0.41 and I have it setup to not block uTorrent. I use window 7 ultimate. I realize it could be a million different issues and thanks for your help.

The long and short of it is that proxies like BTGuard only offer a limited amount of protection.

Additionally, most of the time they specifically cause conditions that guarantee that you will not be able to accept incoming connections.

The site you linked originally should have its advice avoided rather than followed at this point.

What should I use to protect myself if BTGaurd won't do it? Can you help me with my network issue? Why does the newer version I downloaded not work as well as the original one I was using? I tried downloading it off this site and I get the same issues. I realize you probably get tired of the same issue over and over again so thanks for responding.

Don't download content that would require you to even think you need protection. That's the only way to do it.

There's a shopping list of reasons, and without more information about your setup, I have no idea where to start. http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=15992
