JRH Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 Very odd problem here. I run my computer, quite close to my bed, 24 hours a day - constantly either leeching or seeding (normally both!).I've just changed over from Azereus to uTorrent 1.5. Around every minute/minute and a half, while uTorrent is running, the computer makes an odd hissing noise for ten seconds (I'm not sure what part of the computer is actually making it!).I've checked all the settings in uT and drawn a blank. Could it be the software checking something out with the hard disk isn't downloading to/uploading from? I've no idea.Any suggestions would be great.P.S. Am running Windows XP Home on an Intel Celeron D 2.66GHz, 512MB RAM with two hard disks (only one use for torrenting from, which is the slave disk of the two).
Switeck Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 Seems you have ram-to-burn, at least if µTorrent is all that is running while you sleep.Have you tried increasing the read and write caches for µTorrent so it (supposedly) won't have to access your hard disk so often?I suggest 20 MB for each (that's 20480 kb in the advanced settings).
JRH Posted March 24, 2006 Author Report Posted March 24, 2006 It was set to -1 in the advanced settings which I've now changed to 20480 - the noise seems to have stopped.. for now! Thanks.
