mumakil
So I used to use bittorrent as my default torrent downloader and it worked fine for like years. Then at somepoint it started disconnecting my internet when i loaded files with it. I changed to utorrent which has the same problem. So the situation is this: I startup Utorrent(or bittorrent before) and it starts downloadinga file( A house episode in this case) After a while my network looses internet access. I have tried meddling with the settings in utorrent and in network connections but nothing helps. I have googled for help but all are from like 2008 and nothing there gives a answer. Our internet comes from our neighbour who provides the internet to the whole block trough his router(Its faster and cheaper than other options) and as it worked well before im sure its not a router power issue. It then comes to a switch box(TL-SF1005D) in our house that splits it between my computer and my sisters computer. When my computer looses connection my sisters computer stays normal so that also tells me its not a router issue and probably not a switch box issue. The time it takes to loose internet connection varies from 5 to 30 mins or so. I need to restart the computer for the connection to recover. I tried waiting and taking it out of the switch box and putting it back but nothing. I have seriously tried everything i can and i cannot fix it. This forum is my last hope to fix this problem. And yeah my sister can use bittorrent/Utorrent fine and her internet never disconnects even if my internet disconnects. What can i do?Sincerely MumakilPS: The internet we get from our neighbour is quite fast and It has allowed Utorrent to download without any internet problems for like 48 hours sessions easy. It must be something in my computer but i cant find out what it could be.
DreadWingKnight
What internet security software do you have installed?http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=15992
mumakil
Right now im using Vipre Antivirus premium but im quite sure i had this problem before I installed this antivirus software. I think it has become much more common and frequent lately though. Im also using windows 7Edit: I checked the linked settings info and i have tried: Disabling DHT, Disabling Upnp, Lowering max connections(it crashed even at 20 so that cant be it). I havent tried lowering netmax_halfopen as its at 100 and lowering it to 4 seems odd.edit 2: It also disconnects the internet only when i have a download on. Right now its stopped and it has not disconnected for over a hour. Also It has a expection in firewall so its not that either

Ninja108
Hi.I have the same problem and I am also using utorrent and vipre antivirus premium in windows 7. Both utorrent 2.0 and 3.0 versions make my internet connection limited and my wireless card stops responding until the next restart. I finally got it working by installing an old version of utorrent 1.8.2 . I would like to ask utorrent staff what does versions 2.0 and 3.0 do differently that messes up connectivity?thx
d10d3
As of late when ever I use utorrent I can continue download/uploading through utorrent but I am prevented from accessing websites. I have to totally terminate utorrent in order to get browsing back. I never had this issue prior to 3.0 release. Now how ever others on my network can still browse and do things. Looks like I just need to revert back to an older version one that works how it should.
DreadWingKnight
Except that downgrading doesn't actually solve the problem.
Blinding
I would suspect the number of connections. Under options/bandwidth what do you have the "global number of connections" set to? I have mine set to 200 BTW.Also you can open a command prompt and run "netstat -an". Try to get an idea of how many open connections you have. You may be using up all the network connections that your computer is configured for. Then when your browser tries to open a web site there are no free connections available.Certainly everything you have done points to a problem on your computer rather than your network connection. Did you state what OS you are running?
ap900333
Please do not delete my post, I am just trying to participate as I have the same issue. Thanks so much.Same issue here, doesnt look like I have that many open connections, and I have same (200) global connections. Also, just for kicks I tried a very similiar open source torrent and it works with 0 issues and i have downloaded gigs and gigs with it with no issue. In fact I would just use it (the mods there seem to be nicer there) but alas, I have MCM and it has built in Utorrent integration which is wonderful when it is working.. Oh and I bet its something stupid I did so I apologize in advance for being a stupid user. Please do not ban me or delete my posts, I am trying to find out what the issue is and if I need to provide some info I have not I would be more than willing to. In other words lets all be adults here
veldthui
It is your router. uTorrent is flooding the port that does DNS so your router thinks it is a DOS attack and blocks your IP from using that port. Result no DNS lookups and thus not being able to surf the net.Depending on your router you need to disable one of the firewall rules, For my Draytek it was the UDP flood rule. Better yet they should fix the issue with uTorrent as it never used to do this so something has changed.
randers
Hi, I also have been having the same problem - just came out of nowhere, or at least I thought, this is what I did - Options / Preferences / BitTorrent / Protocol Encryption / Outgoing: Enabled and a check mark beside Allow incoming legacy connections. This worked for me, I am able to download/upload and surf the web at the same time. Hope this works for you.
jaradthescot
I've been having the exact same problem for about a month (since I reinstalled Windows 7. My old install of Windows 7 was fine with uTorrent though). I tried troubleshooting it a few times when I had time and I eventually followed 'ap900333's lead and tried a similar program. It's been working fine now. I can give any specifics about my machine if that will help find a solution, as it is clearly something specific to uTorrent. I've been using uTorrent for years and would prefer going back to it if I can find a way to make it work.
feederex
Same problem here where internet disconnects.I reformatted my computer 5 days ago and had to redownload utorrent. I noticed the new version (I have not updated utorrent for awhile now) and used it. The first night I left my computer on to download stuff. The first few hours were fine, but then according to the speed graph, the entire thing stopped after that. Past few days had the same results, but I dismissed it as a small error..then I decided to search google for this problem.I tried the fixes according to http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=74820 (section c) but it choked right before my eyes again...
