uTorrent makes computer, especially video, freeze

I have a computer with the Vista OS. I have uTorrent 2.2.1 (build 25302). My internet connection is about 400 kb/s. When I try to download, it usually works for a little while. Once the speed increases, it starts to make my computer freeze for short periods. Sometimes the computer freezes completely and I have to restart it. The problem is especially bad when I have video playing. Usually within a minute, the video freezes, but the audio keeps going. After a little while, the video will usually move forward quickly to catch up with the audio. Again, it will sometimes freeze the computer completely. I usually can't close uTorrent from the program, so I have to use the task manager. The problems continue for a while after I close uTorrent, sometimes to the point where I have to restart the computer. I have tried defragmenting my computer and running regular virus scans with Malwarebytes.

Any help you could give me would be appreciated.
