using magnet link opens a new utorrent process

I installed utorrent 3 (july 7) over 2.21 which was working just fine. Now when I click on a magnet link and utorrent is already running it will open another instance and once the downloads are finished closing utorrent makes the files not possible to be found anywhere, even if I click on open file location before closing and extracting the file to another location (except external drive where it cannot be deleted) the file is deleted when I close both instances of utorrent and I do get a warning that the history cannot be saved if I close and I should choose retry, which amounts to the same error again and again ad infinitum. I upgraded to the latest July 18 version, but still the same.

I reinstalled 2.21 and IT has inherited the bug.

Going to programs and Features i see that utorrent v3 is still installed, even though the open program shows 2.21.

I uninstall and delete the program files from drive C and delete the registry entries.

I reinstall 2.21 which installs correctly but now does not load the ipfilter.dat file and still opens another instance of utorrent when i click on a magnet link. Reupgrade to 3 latest, problems remain the same in addition to NOT loading the ipfilter.dat file.

One of the versions is registered to handle magnet links, but you were running the other one already. When you clicked the magnet link, the other version of ut was launched.

Uninstall both fully, then install one.

We agree this is confusing, and a ticket has been opened to address this behaviour.
