New bigger system disk - utorrent often "not responding" when DL

I switched my 250 GB system disk to a 2 TB HDD. So now I'm downloading (often at 8-10 MB/s) bigger files (10-40 GB) to the system disk than before (not same partition as utorrent though I guess that doesn't matter). This has led to almost always getting "not responding" when downloading. Waiting for it to resolve itself doesn't work. I have to restart utorrent and do a re-check. Sometimes it won't do "not responding" again, sometimes it does. But if I start a new big torrent same thing happens again.

Do I have to move Win7 and/or utorrent to a different unused HDD again?

Well, some sticky here said I should use something like zSHARE. Ah, nm. It was for the crash dump file.

I've tried downloading on one of my older drives, and it still happens often. So I guess it had nothing to do with which drive I have utorrent/Win7 on. It almost never happened before though, if it did it always resolved itself within a couple minutes.

The Win7 installation is a clone of the old one though.

I'm running utorrent 3.0.

I haven't changed anything since the HDD change except increasing cach size from 1024 to 1800 MB (had 100% disk usage for first time since 2-3 years ago) and setting "pre-alocate all files".

Ok, 1800mb of disk cache size is bordering on (if not over) the crash threshold for 32-bit uTorrent. There's almost never any good reason to have it even close to that. Your scenario isn't one of the good reasons.

Pre-allocation is also a potential problem causer, depending on drive performance and the size of the torrent.

In advanced, enable diskio.no_zero and diskio.sparse_files

Ok, thanks. Seems to work fine now though without changing any of those. I did a run with CCleaner and reboot (server running 24/7), I'm guessing it was the last thing that helped. Not really sure.
