LeroyTheGreat38 Posted October 2, 2011 Report Posted October 2, 2011 Hello all, I'm new to torrents and I'm having an issue when I set the default download location to my external hard drive. When it's selected to my laptop, the torrent downloads no problem. When I change the download location to my external, the torrent gives me an error message.Anybody know how to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
antv Posted October 2, 2011 Report Posted October 2, 2011 Can you provide the error message? Also, what format is your external hard drive?
LeroyTheGreat38 Posted October 2, 2011 Author Report Posted October 2, 2011 "Windows NT File System (NTFS)" is what I found under the general info on my hard drive. And it says "Error-Read-only file" under the status.
BN Posted October 3, 2011 Report Posted October 3, 2011 Your Mac can't natively write to that drives formatted NTFS. It's not just µTorrent. There are ways to get your mac to write NTFS, but they are beyond the scope of this forum (macfuse...)If you format the drive HFS+ your mac will see and write to it fine. All data will be destroyed in the formatting process of course, and you PC won't be able to write to it anymore. If you format the drive as FAT32, then both PC and Mac can write to it. Formatting will still destroy any data. You won't be able to save any files over 4GB in size to it.
LeroyTheGreat38 Posted October 4, 2011 Author Report Posted October 4, 2011 Don't think I want to go that route. Maybe I'll just look at getting an external for my Mac.Thanks for the help!
antv Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 there are a bunch of programs that will make your Mac use NTFS for write, personally I use "Paragon NTFS for Mac" (google it) and I'm saving almost everything to an eternal NTFS disk with no problem at all.
