Vike
Did u manually open a port? Is the network connection button thing green? If so, don't worry about it.
whoknows
What do you mean by manually open a port? What is the network connection thing? Is it the little arrow next to the name of the torrent being downloaded?
Ultima
Have you forwarded your port in the router? The green thing Vike is talking about is the circle in the status bar on µTorrent. Next to the DHT message telling you how many nodes you're connected to. If it's green, you can ignore the message. Otherwise, you're going to have to forward your port... check portforward.com for information on how to do that.
blackspawn
When I used UPnP (now I use port forwarding) with my DSL-G604T most often then not uTorrent gave the same message "Unable to map..." displaying a red icon on the connection status, however I was able to download and upload as usual :? I used randomize port option so even if the router left the last session port open uTorrent wouldn't be using that port but another... So I guess the port got open but uTorrent thought it wasn't? Sar
Upnp port mapping is a feature that works with some compatible routers to open the required ports automatically. Either your router doesn't support UPnP and for some routers, even if they are compatible with UPnP, have problems with this. In that case you need to do the port forwarding manually. If it's green, you can ignore the message.
blackspawn
yes I know that I'm just saying that even if mu router has somekind of problem with UPnP (which by the way it does support) if uTorrent wasn't able to open the port and if I didn't have forwarded any port how come I was able to download and upload just fine? 00
Did you try enabling encryption in the Network Options? Also try one of these and see what speeds you get.http://borft.student.utwente.nl/~adrian/bt.php
whoknows
Download speed went back up again, but my Upload speed won't though.
Ultima
If it's green, there's most likely no problem at all. Check the OpenOffice.org torrent just to make sure you can actually download fast.@blackspawn: Because being behind a firewall doesn't mean you can't make outgoing connections. It's incoming connections initiated by other people that get blocked.
ballsagne
what if you get this problem and you're not even plugged into a router?

blackspawn
@blackspawn: Because being behind a firewall doesn't mean you can't make outgoing connections. It's incoming connections initiated by other people that get blocked.hum doesn't that mean that uploads would get blocked? (others wouldn't be able to request anything from me right?) And I'm looking right now at uTorrent, it's red lighted (UPnP failed) and I'm uploading at 40KB/s.
1c3d0g
No, 'cause you can "see" other peers and upload to them (you're aware of them), but they can't "see" you (if you're firewalled). At least, that's my understanding of it.
blackspawn
So what you are saying is that uploads in bittorrent aren't iniciated by the client who wants some piece but by the clients who possess set piece?Sort of a "I am X client and I have XYZ pieces. which one do you want?" (me)"I want the Z piece." (Y client which I will upload too)If this is the case then what is the downside of being behind a NAT (meaning unable to accept incoming connections)? Firon
No.Client X is firewalled, client Y is not. Client Y tries to connect to X, but the connection fails. The connection will only work when client X tries to connect to Y, which may take a while.Client Z is firewalled. Client X and Z will never be able to connect. blackspawn
Right I understand, thanks all. Now all I need to do is get a better router...
Firon
Can't you just forward manually and not use UPnP?
blackspawn
yes but that is more of the same since my crap router keeps "forgetting" the rules I make, after a couple of reboots the forward ports rules vanish... and I have to reeinsert them. I going to buy a draytek 2800G soon and that will hopefully solve all of my problems.
Firon
Weird... Well, best of luck with your new router. Hope it doesn't have issues either lol

1c3d0g
Maybe they have a faulty tracker? Or you just didn't upload enough there? :| How should we know? Ask that tracker's support staff... :/
jonax00
gud day! i've been having this problem since the beginning... my top speed at one time was 15 kBps! most of the time it never goes higher than 10 kBps! at the startup of utorrent, the network connection is always yellow, then after 10 - 15 mins., it then turns to red.now i've tried portforward.com, and read others' problems regarding the matter.i THINK the problem lies w/ my router.... i have zyxel prestige 660R-61C. so how can i be sure that i'm right? is there a website or something that lists/reports router that do not support upnp? =(i wanna buy a new router to fix the problem, but these things are not cheap here in the PH! how can i also be sure that i'm buying a the right router?thanx a lot, i've learned a lot of things just reading articles in forum!
