macko123 Posted October 26, 2011 Report Posted October 26, 2011 Hi all,I've got an odd problem with uTorrent. Most torrents work fine, no problems whatsoever. They connect, download at a reasonable speed, and it's all fine. Unfortunately, with some really popular torrents with lots of available seeds... I can't connect to ANY of the seeds, and I get about 5kb/s if I'm lucky. Currently I'm trying to download a torrent and seeds are 1(3163) and my download speed is 3kb/s. Any ideas why this is?The 'Setup Guide' doesn't come up with any router or network config issues, and my Firewall is set to Allow uTorrent for everything. Windows7, uTorrent v2.2.1
DreadWingKnight Posted October 26, 2011 Report Posted October 26, 2011 Does the problem persist when you try openoffice or slackware torrents?
macko123 Posted October 26, 2011 Author Report Posted October 26, 2011 No, I'm getting 12(33) from OpenOffice.I just noticed the Seeds/Peers ratio in OpenOffice is 2+, whereas this popular torrent, while it has a lot of seeds, the Seeds/Peers ratio is low (0.076), because the # of Peers is extremely high. Could this be why I'm not able to connect to the seeds?
DreadWingKnight Posted October 26, 2011 Report Posted October 26, 2011 Yup.And you're best off optimizing your own connection for your upload speed to get the best speeds you can out of it.
macko123 Posted October 27, 2011 Author Report Posted October 27, 2011 Why, with a seed/peer ratio of only 3x more is my download speed more than 100x faster?edit: it was going at 5kb/s before, my math isn't that bad.
DreadWingKnight Posted October 27, 2011 Report Posted October 27, 2011 Because swarm conditions cause that.Optimizing your settings for your line's upload capability will get you the best speeds you can, after that swarm conditions may still kill your speeds.
