Wi-Fi router suggestion needed

I am a very busy torrent user, between my private trackers and sharing a ton of files, I really get my use out of uTorrent. That is great, but what I have run into, over the years, and I keep going back to a wired connection because of it, is that no matter what wi-fi router I have tried, I end up maxing out the connection, which of course, in turn, crashes the wi-fi portion of the router.

Lowering the connections is something I would prefer not to do, as I want to max out my speed connection. Can I get some suggestions for relatively modern routers, be it consumer, prosumer or professional, though I don't want to spend $1k for a router, of course. My situation now is that where the modem is is not conducive to having a wired connection, even though that is what I would prefer.

Currently there is 1 Mac laptop, 1 Windows laptop and 1 Windows desktop connected wirelessly and at present I have to set uTorrent to limited by schedule settings, which most of the time is okay, but often times is not. I am not in charge of the router, but I think even if I tried to use my N router, I would run into the same thing. Also, will it make a difference if the main computer(s) using uTorrent use the 5Ghz instead of the 2.4Ghz spectrum?

Then you've fallen into the emule trap. With BitTorrent clients, more connections is usually slower rather than faster, especially on popular files. I'm able to max out my 15/15 fibre connection with a single torrent and just 30 peer connections (yes 30). The automatic disconnect code (which gives peers a minimum of 5 minutes to become useful in some way before disconnecting them) will cycle off useless peers for you.

If you're going to insist on keeping your connection count high (which will bite you in the ass down the line) then going with a DD-WRT capable router such as the Linksys E3000 would be my recommendation.

Thanks for the reply, it's much appreciated. I lowered my per torrent connection to 30 per torrent, I assume that is what you meant, right? I noticed a big drop in speed, from about 10-12 meg to about 500k, no kidding, no other changes made..lol.

Most of my torrents have 50-2500 seeds/peers, so that is why I kept my connections high, most file sets complete in maybe 1-2 hours max with the higher connections, but I am willing to try whatever might work.
