Program crashes a lot since last update

I don't have a specific problem I need fixed - uTorrent still works fine. The problem is that since the previous update, if I try to stop downloads before they're finished and close the program, it hangs and won't close even if I try to force quit through OS X. At one point I even had to do a hard reset and my computer wouldn't restart. I had to boot from a disk and fix permissions with the disk utility. I don't know what caused this to happen, but you should figure it out. uTorrent was awesome until this started happening.
