AndyMac Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 I've just changed ISP (in hindsight probably not a good idea) from Talktalk to another. However it appears the new ISP ( I wont mention them as I dont want to draw attention to the issue if there is a way to circumvent the problem) has a policy in recognising torrent downloads and relegating them to the lowest speeds. On Saturday, after midnight, I downloaded 2Gb of data using utorrent with no problems. Next evening the traffic slowed to a crawl and since then I havent managed to get above 500kps despite previously experiencing download speeds of 2Mb at times. Naturally I've discussed this with the ISP and they say they are looking into it but then they would wouldnt they ?. So my question is "Can I set up utorrent to fly underneath the ISP radar and thus prevent them from throttling the service ?"
EastLink Posted November 11, 2011 Report Posted November 11, 2011 Yes. Try enabling protocol encryption. It's under "Preferences > BitTorrent" Set it to "Enabled" or "Forced" (I believe it is disabled by default in 3.0)

rafi Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 Also, using uTP might help (some) - pref->bittorrent->enable bandwidth management
