timotb Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 I may have identified the problem as to why utorrent was crashing, taking forever to respond, and causing excessively high CPU usage......Zone Alarm. Downloads speeds ranged from under 100kb/sec to nothing over the last day. For sh#ts and giggles, I dropped the firewall, Zone Alarm and wow.......download speeds went through the roof! >200Kb/sec. Next, I turned ZA back on, there was a momentary drop then speeds stabilized above 200.Any suggestion on how to tweak ZA on this XP Professional machine?ZoneAlarm Free Firewall version: 10.1.065.000vsmon version: 10.1.065.000Driver version: 10.1.065.000ZoneAlarm Browser Security: 1.5.350.0ZoneAlarm ForceField Spyware Scanner: 1.5.350.0ZoneAlarm ForceField Anti-Phishing Database: 1.2.104.0ZoneAlarm ForceField Spyware Sites Database: 04.155Day3 It did it again. Low speeds around 10kb/sec......turn off ZA, the speed rockets to the ceiling. Turn ZA back on, there's that momentary drop then resumes the rise in speeds above 200. This slowly works it way back down to the slower speeds until I shut ZA off Could there be a port forwarding problem in addition to a firewall problem? I have a green check mark in lower right corner.
timotb Posted November 22, 2011 Author Report Posted November 22, 2011 Everything I read here suggests ZA isnt the best firewall companion with utorrent. Any suggestions for a replacement firewall?
DreadWingKnight Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 Comodo or your router (if you have one).
