1080p Posted November 24, 2011 Report Posted November 24, 2011 OS: Lion 10.7.2 (11C74)Client version: 1.5.11 (25801)I am receiving an error with regard to torrents containing letters which have accented and other similar characters. I add the torrent and it starts but stops soon afterward with an error, usually 'Error: Invalid argument'.After looking at the message log I can see that the error is reported as:[Time] Error opening "/path/to/folder/and/filename/containing/accented/character.extension"this is usually repeated a couple of times, then[Time] Error: Torrent File Name - invalid argumentWould this be a bug within µTorrent or something to do with OS X itself?
1080p Posted November 24, 2011 Author Report Posted November 24, 2011 I have managed to download a torrent which had the "#" character in one of the files. So far it has explicitly failed when a "é" and "ä" character is present in one of the files.I have tried removing the torrent file and erasing the partially downloaded files and beginning again. The same error occurs.
AnnSnark Posted November 25, 2011 Report Posted November 25, 2011 What is your localisation\language?
1080p Posted November 25, 2011 Author Report Posted November 25, 2011 I set the localisation to English on my Mac. I can't see any localisation settings within µTorrent so I am going to assume it is set to it's default setting.
AnnSnark Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 Could you send me a link to a torrent that leads to error? Please, also clarify whether the .torrent file name should contain such characters or the files you download?
1080p Posted December 3, 2011 Author Report Posted December 3, 2011 I am unable to link or provide the .torrent file which gives me an error as it is a private torrent. The files within the torrent contain the characters in question, not the .torrent file itself. If you can't replicate the issue let me know and I will see about providing a torrent which gives me this error.
AnnSnark Posted December 6, 2011 Report Posted December 6, 2011 Please do, I can't reproduce it on Lion. You can e-mail me at mac@bittorrent.com.
q00u Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 This problem still exists in 2.0.2 (26717)OS: Snow Leopard (10.6.8)For me, it's any torrent that includes a LONG unicode filename. Like, super long. I can't tell you how long (no way to copy the filename from the client?), but it scrolls off the window. It's long, is what I'm saying. The client _seems_ to run into the Error: Invalid argument problem whether that long filename file is set to download or not. Trying to restart the download forces a re-check, followed by the same error again.
Firon Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 Could you provide any torrent that causes this issue reliably to mac@bittorrent.com?Link to this thread please.
q00u Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 Doh, I wish I had seen this earlier. I've already removed the torrents that had this problem, since they could not complete.I tried making a new torrent that might exhibit this behavior (ie, I made a long-unicode file and put it in a torrent), but the client froze when trying to save the torrent file. Doh! I have no idea what's going on here.
MooCan Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 Dear all,I have same problems with many many torrents. When a torrent contains file or folders with accentuated characters they always failed during download or during re-check process.Accentuated characters are converted to something else and many times uTorrents does not find files or folders created by itself. Here is my previous problem http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=113748As example with my last problem .... I downloaded a torrent which contains é, à, °, ... characters. First time uTorrent say me that download is finished. after restarting uTorrent, uTorrent say that torrent is not finished and completed with 81%. So I restart download and see that new folders and files are wrote no more with à = ? but now with à = a (without any system mods or updates ... nothing changed). I stopped download, remove torrent from uTorrent, close uTorrent, remove newly added folders (keeping first one created with strange names) restart uTorrent, re-add torrent and finally force a re-check ... and then uTorrent find all files and say that download is finished. So now ln is my best friend with uTorrent I'm on SL 10.6.7 with en_US locale.>> To staff : 1- is it possible as in Windows version to add an option to add an extension to files which are not completed ... eg .ut (to know which files are completed or not) 2- and why not remove the forced creation of the root folder which is named as the torrent name which cause problem when the torrent has a name with accentuated characters ... eg: "Frédéric va à la pèche et crèche dans le chalêt n°5"Kind Regards
AnnSnark Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 Dear All! Please share problematic torrents for us to test the problem.
onehoope Posted April 15, 2012 Report Posted April 15, 2012 I get the Invalid argument error without any character.extension errors. Multiple ReadFile errors followed by "Error opening", concluding with Invalid argument. Then it exhibits the same behavior here with the forced restart resulting in an extremely long and unfruitful checking process only to return to Error.I was hypothesizing that I have too many torrents open (not that many) with too many files and that I was viewing files which may have been seeding (though this same thing happened to torrents that I was not viewing). As a result of this thread, I think it may be that I am saving to an Appleshare (afp) drive. Could it be that there is a difference in the way that it translates filenames to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and FAT32 drives or in the way that uTorrent reads said filenames? Just hooked up my Appleshare drive by usb and it is actually Mac OS Extended (Journaled), which takes some of the air from the sails of that theory. I'm including this post anyway, should it help. (Running Disk Utility "Verify"/"Repair Disk" while via USB) Note that it needed repair (Volume header needs minor repair / The volume __ was found to be corrupt and needs to be repaired..." Looks like my startup disk is due to be repaired as well, so I will post this without final results as per torrenting. As a sidebar, so long as uTorrent doesn't freeze up on you, try quitting it and then restarting said torrents upon reboot before entering the forced recheck process (it takes SO long!).M@OSX 10.6.8, uTorrent 1.5.15
j0nnj0nzz Posted April 29, 2012 Report Posted April 29, 2012 hey Mac torrent peoples.I've been experiencing that same issue where there are torrents with strange characters and the like not working. Here's the weird part;I grabbed an old copy of µTorrent, (Version 1.0.3 (23545)) and I can get these files to download. Immediately after trying that same torrent in µTorrent 1.6.2, it either says "error: is a directory" or "error: invalid argument".So whatever happened, it's something that broke between versions. Hope that sheds some light on the strange case of the invalad argument.J0nnEdit: this issue also exists in 1.5
jamie_bisson Posted April 30, 2012 Report Posted April 30, 2012 Here is an example of an invalid argumenthttps://torcache.net/torrent/5DEA9621A76AFBB7F1D16FE6E02F3E151E5DF27F.torrent?title=[kat.ph]x.plane.10To get the file you will need to copy and paste the complete https:// above as only half of the link is active as a clickable link. The invalid argument seems to come from DVD 2 as I can download all the other DVD's, but when I try to download DVD 2 the argument comes up.Any ideas people or better still any feedback from the utorrent staff?ThanksJamie
