gerryjohnson Posted November 27, 2011 Report Posted November 27, 2011 I've had little to no problems before with IP Filter since I have rarely, if ever, downloaded material that could be considered copyrighted, but just yesterday I started noticing dozens of IP's being blocked on any torrent I tried downloading. It would first block my router address, which isn't so much of a problem, then it would block a dozen or so other IP's. Does anyone know why it has suddenly starting doing this?
gerryjohnson Posted November 27, 2011 Author Report Posted November 27, 2011 Okay, I'm as anti-noob as they get and I've spent a good 10 minutes trying to search for and figure out what "log entries" you need, so I'm hoping I can just write out the contents of the "Logger" for you, because that's the best I've been able to come up with. [2011-11-27 04:46:17] Loaded ipfilter.dat (225832 entries)[2011-11-27 04:46:17] IPv6 is installed[2011-11-27 04:46:17] Got Teredo Address 2001:0:4137:9e76.....[2011-11-27 04:47:12] IpFilter blocked peer 192.168.1.1 <--- My router, I'm assuming[2011-11-27 04:48:18] IpFilter blocked peer 192.168.1.1[2011-11-27 04:48:18] IpFilter blocked peer 192.168.1.1[2011-11-27 04:48:44] IpFilter blocked peer 64.69.46.146[2011-11-27 04:48:46] IpFilter blocked peer 46.9.246.241[2011-11-27 04:49:20] IpFilter blocked peer 46.9.246.241[2011-11-27 04:49:21] IpFilter blocked peer 69.171.168.58...and the list goes on, even for awhile after I've cancelled all downloads/uploads.EDIT: And prior to yesterday, I've had hardly any blocked peers show up for anything, ever. Now it's happening with almost every download.
DreadWingKnight Posted November 27, 2011 Report Posted November 27, 2011 Ok, why are you using such an oversized ipfilter?
gerryjohnson Posted November 28, 2011 Author Report Posted November 28, 2011 I figure it's better safe than sorry, I don't ever want to deal with one of those notices. The size hasn't really caused me a problem before, and it's always had roughly the same amount of entries, so I don't understand why it's blocking so many all of a sudden. I use an updater service but I hadn't updated until after I noticed this problem. I thought updating might fix it but... nope.
DreadWingKnight Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 Those oversized ipfilters (like the ones from bluetack) are not actually protecting you from anything other than using your internet connection properly. We've been over why about a dozen times already.
gerryjohnson Posted November 28, 2011 Author Report Posted November 28, 2011 I agree that it's effect may be next to nothing, but I'm only filtering IP's on utorrent, so I don't mind a slight amount of bandwidth lost. I'm just curious why it's such a sudden thing that there are so many IP's being filtered, when there were almost none a few days ago, and without me having changed anything in IP Filter or utorrent.
gerryjohnson Posted November 29, 2011 Author Report Posted November 29, 2011 Does anyone know why that may be?
